Answer to all apple products: sony. Apple is just a fashion statement. A somewhat tacky one at that.

Your post seems to indicate that the trend would be the other way, as more people become computer literate less would buy Macs. Either your assumption is wrong or your reasoning is._Chaz_ said:Some people prefer to think in short terms. A lot of people never consider what comes next when buying a personal computer. With more people becoming Computer Literate, more people will want to modify, tweak, and increase the performance/appearance of their machines. This something not possible on a Mac.
Plus, when something breaks, which happens, one would either have to buy a whole new Mac or simply replace the part on a PC.
Plus, Apple also manufactures iPods, iPhones, and iPads. These things no doubt adds to their market share.

And I was referring to desktop PC market share specifically, where OSX was up 30% last year.
Apparently you don't know what the term "market share" means._Chaz_ said:Also, how much did Microsoft's desktop PC market share rise in the last year?
You're right, I don't.Urza said:Apparently you don't know what the term "market share" means._Chaz_ said:Also, how much did Microsoft's desktop PC market share rise in the last year?

"Market share" is the percent of the market that a given company or product holds. Since OSX and Windows are the two primary holders (Linux being between only 1-4%), any gains OSX gets will be from Windows' share of the pie._Chaz_ said:You're right, I don't.Urza said:Apparently you don't know what the term "market share" means._Chaz_ said:Also, how much did Microsoft's desktop PC market share rise in the last year?
Doesn't help your case, however.
I was speaking of how I knew not what it meant, that fact does not help your case.Urza said:"Market share" is the percent of the market that a given company or product holds. Reality is pretty much the opposite of what you are saying, so not sure how that doesn't help my case.

Isn't Linux non-profit?

I'm actually not be sarcastic or anything here (I'm not too bright about this), but what is it that Macs can do that PCs can't? I've heard a lot of good things about Mac but I want to wait for a reason before I replace my PC, money is not a big problem, and I do want to learn about new platforms and not be OSX illustrate at this day and age, but what makes Macs special?Urza said:Number one signal of a "fanboy": Assuming that everyone values the same qualities you do at the same level.QUOTE said:Whereas I've never seen anyone bother or even attempt to boot into OS X via VM. Why? There's no point. A Windows machine is already the swiss army knife of computers. It doesn't need to boot into OS X to play games or use programs made for OS X because there's already an equivalent or better on the operating system.
You also don't seem to have any knowledge of math, English, or the PC industry._Chaz_ said:I've never used Linux, so I have no knowledge of anything Linux.

... That doesn't really mean shit. I'm not market expert, but your stock quote don't mean shit in relations to company size and profits. There are stock quotes over $100,000 per stock for companies no one heard of. Microsoft's total asset is 77.9 billion where as Apple is 47.5 Billion. Although Apple's Net Income (this is older data from 2009) is catching up at 8 billion compared to 14 at MS.sixteenbuttons said:Apples stock price as of market close friday was 249 USD.

Apples stock is worth 10x Microsoft's.
THE FUTURE IS MAC
First of all, I would say the huge majority of all consumers do not upgrade their computers, regardless of make. It doesn't matter if its Apple or another manufacturer, they will ride what they have to the ground and replace the entire box when they feel it's necessary._Chaz_ said:Plus, my original statement was concerning the options that either system allowed. PC allows for customization, while Macs are set as they are. This alone can support why Apple is growing; those who prefer Apple cannot upgrade their systems without buying a new one, unless they buy a PC.Urza said:I do so because it's amusing and you set me up for it, how can I resist_Chaz_ said:I've never used Linux, so I have no knowledge of anything Linux.

Going from an argument of Mac v PC to simple bashing of your "opponent"?
Either you're getting mad and cannot control yourself, or you lack skills for basic human interaction, even if not physical.
Sorry for not knowing about market shares, but I am actually quite adept at English and pretty good at math. Let's try to keep to the argument at hand though.QUOTESo, OSX being up 30% means that Windows was down 30%![]()
When one says that market share is "up 30%," they do not mean 30% of the entire market. It means whatever share was held is up 30%. For example if it was 3% initially, "up 30%" would mean an end result of 4%. If you had knowledge of either math or the PC industry, you would know that OS market share does not shift by comically large margins like that, and that Microsoft holds the vast majority with about 90%.
