Hmm only that I understand correctly.....rajkosto´s method will update the cartridge too?
So if i get back to 1.0 i cannot use my cartirdge?!
Not true, only if you boot the switch normally (Not through hekate) will it update the cart slot firmware.
STEP 10: LAUNCHING THE FIRMWARE ANY OTHER TIME
IF YOUR CARTRIDGE SLOT WORKS ON <4.0.0 FIRMWARE AND YOU WISH TO KEEP IT THAT WAY, YOU MUST ALWAYS LOAD 4.0.0 OR HIGHER FIRMWARE USING THE [FS_XXX] OPTION WHICH USES REPLACEMENT FS_XXX_nogc.kip1 SYSMODULE VIA HEKATE ! EVEN A SINGLE BOOT WITHOUT THAT SYSMODULE REPLACEMENT USED WILL PERMANENTLY UPGRADE THE GAME CARTRIDGE CONTROLLER FIRMWARE TO THE 4.0.0 VERSION, MAKING IT UNUSABLE IN EARLIER FIRMWARES (so any "CFW" ini files you use YOU MUST ADD THE PROPER FS_XXX_nogc.kip1 LINE TO ALL ENTRIES).

You can now extract/use any hekate sdfiles zip back onto your microSD, and launch via hekate Launch firmware -> stock/CFW options like normal.
The switch will be in AutoRCM mode too, so your fuses are not at risk of being accidentally burned if it decides to power up normally.

This is opinionated, but booting the Switch into RCM requires less skill than installing the trinket. Not to mention that you have to pay for the trinket which can still be a turn-off to some people. Lastly, some people have broken their pin 10 with a paperclip. Who knows what kind of damage they can do if they try installing the trinket.
You're right about it requiring less skill, but it's also something you have to do over and over again along with carrying around a dongle. Eventually you'll damage your Switch. The reed switch is a much better option, but if you can install the reed switch, chances are you can install the trinket. I'm not surprised about the paperclip thing. Idk how anybody though that jamming a paperclip in there would be a good idea.

From which version starts the exfat support?!
Nintendo wanted to save some bucks on licensing, so they made it a necessary download (which can be done on the actual firmware from 1.0.0 on, when it was the current one).
However there is a tutorial to install it on 2.0.0+ (for now) unofficially.

Thank you for clearing that up. Never tried it myself, since it seems easy to mess up in the long run.

I am still on 1.0.0.
I would like to wait for the emunand support but there is no information if and when it comes.
My switch is already lying around all the time and I can not do much with it.
Homebrews are always failing and only a handful of games are running.

1. If I update, which is the best version?
2. Can I choose the version at all?
3. If I use the rajkosto method and something goes wrong, can I restore the nand again?
4. Or should I take the official way but how can I choose the version?
I recommend you stay on Firmware 1.0.0, as such Switch are very rare and valuable these days. You could sell it for high price to a Switch homebrew developer.

You can just leave the console in sleep mode instead of inserting the jig and plugging in the USB cable. Only stipulation from that point is making sure it never runs out of power and if it does, you have to use the jig and USB cable again. Reed switch I would also argue is the best modification to boot RCM with the least risk of damaging the system.

Sure, but what if you wanna play online or something? You have to get out of cfw.

If you can install a reed switch you can install a trinket m0.

Well people have been banned for booting into OFW so Nintendo still has reason to believe they hacked their console. What exactly they think was hacked is left to our imaginations.
Is there any confirmation that entering RCM registers a log? Or is it pure speculation?

If I understand it right it upgrades the cartridge slot (software wise) and we can’t downgrade it yet and maybe never. So if you go down again it’s not usable.

PS: Check your PMs

Ok this is the first time hearing about this :ohnoes: Can you explain further on how it upgrades the cartridge slot?
Thanks

4.0.0+ contain a firmware update for the GameCard controller chip, once flashed, it might not work properly on versions before 4.0.0 once you insert a cart.
the same would happen even if you ran 4.0.0+ firmware via emuNAND, chip firmware would still get flashed.

Ok thanks Draxzelex , glad to know that.
I'm on Firmware 4.01 (official) firmware, so if I use Rajkosto's Guide to downgrade my firmware, how could this affect my Switch??
It depends on how many fuses you have burnt. If you have the number of fuses burnt for 4.0.1 for example (which is 5), you can only boot firmwares 4.0-4.1 without RCM. If you want to boot any other firmware (higher or lower) you must boot into RCM first so you can use a bootloader (SX OS or Hekate) that bypasses the fuse check. For higher firmwares, alternative bootloaders also need to prevent fuses from being burnt which both Hekate and SX OS support. Firmwares 4.0 and above have no problem running cartridges, but if your firmware was below 4.0 and you use his guide to update it, then when you return to any firmware below 4.0 your cartridges will not work.

i accidentally upgrade my cartridge slot going from 3.0.0 to 5.1.0, thinking of buying a replacement on ebay but since i don't use cartridges on this switch anyway i'm just hoping whatever softmod there is for 3.0.0 won't need a cartridge so i can just be on newest firmware on emunand
