Hit start, type in "disk management" and there should be a drive with no drive letter. Assign it a letter, and you're good to go. If it was used on another windows 7/vista install, well youre going to have more problems with file permissions.

right click "computer" on your desktop
click manage
then from the left side menu click on "storage"
then disk management

the hard drive should be here, it might just need to be assigned a drive letter, hopefully which you can do by right clicking the drive

edit: TwinRetro beat me :0

You could check if it still is plugged in, or you could go to start>configuration screen> type in the search box: 'hard drive'> click the first blue link> and check in the pop up screen if the drive is recognized by your computer.
btw, shouldn't this be on Ask Gbatemp?

Did you reboot?

I had a similar problem where one of my drives didn't show up, all I had to do was assign it a letter. Pretty sure I rebooted too.
