Just as the title says, I need to know if I buy Left for Dead over steam, will I be able to play it with a computer that has it installed without steam?

You could always use those virtual ethernet things like Evolve and Tunngle to play together.

If the game has a lan mode the go to method used to be hamachi or Xfire. Those are virtual Ethernets Boogieboo6 mentioned.

I've used Hamachi, it was pretty good. Easy to set up and use.
