Gaming Multi-Console/PC media server?

I want to set up a kind of server in my home where my PS3/PS4/XBONE/Wii (Maybe)/Phone or as many devices as I can, can connect to. I want to do this so I can easily watch shows and movies without constantly moving USBs. My home main PC is ALWAYS on so I wanted to use that, strange thing is on my PS3 under the media section my PC comes up, but trying to play anything results in error. Any good guides/tips/tutorials? Thanks!

Share an entire harddrive that contains media via SMB.

It's the way how I watch things on me PS3 and let me mum watch shit on her tablet via Kodi.

I find Plex to be a really annoying program to use.
Not to mention that it forces you to register for shit.

Showtime/Movian is free and works off SMB.
Kodi is free and works off SMB.

I absolutely love Movian for my PS3, but sometimes there aren't enough good plugins especially for anime. Anitoons is the only good plugin for anime in my opinion can't find anything else.

I'll refrain from what I wanted to say about anime..

I tend to not use any plugins.
It only adds to the list of shit that can break or fuck up.

Keeping it simple is sometimes the best option.

True true, I like to use Plex for ease of use outside of home. I like being able to connect and watch/listen to my stuff. But to each his own, so long as the program works for your needs then all is good.

I believe you can do the same thing with Kodi.
Never tried it tho..
