Same problem here, only get green screen when trying to run this game using 223. 249 works fine, but crashes on the main menu with the buzzing sound.

I have a burnt copy of the game. Been playing the single player quests, but will eventually want to play online quests. Btw this is my first monster hunter game that I've played over a few hours and I never played them online.

My first set of questions deal with the game itself, and my other ones deal with how to play online.

- How much added gameplay does the online give you? At first I thought the online was just co-op of the single player quests, but now I realize that it gives you more quests? Would I be able to finish all of them in the 20 free days? Is it consistently updated?
- Would I be able to extend my subscription online even if I don't live in Japan, and use a NA wii? What limits me in that area then? Using an out of country credit/debit card? Would importing japanese wii points cards solve this issue if it is a problem?

Now for my questions relating to changin my wii's region. I remember changing my region before, and even have the necessary apps, but that was long ago and I forgotten about how I did it. I really want to play online, but as of now I get an error code when trying. I found this for a solution, but I'm hesistant on doing it, because I really don't want to accidentally brick or semi brick my wii.

- Do I need to change my region to Ntsc-J if I'm just installing the Japanese wii shop channel to play online? Will it have any effects on my wii that I may not want.(I have a modchip so playing games from other regions isn't really a problem for me). If I change it back to NTSC-U will I still be able to use the Japanese shop channel and online? If I accidentally brick my wii will I be able to fix it? What exactly is a semibrick/brick and what problems does it bring? Also the last one, I realize that the region changer also changes the version of Firmware to 3.2 from the other thread I read, or am I wrong? I went through a lot of trouble to get the SD Channel to work, and really don't feel like doing it all over again. Will I lose any features that are present in later versions of Firmware?

Thanks for all help, and sorry if I feel like a nuiance. I really don't get into too much into soft-mods when I have a mod-chip that does everything or most things automatically. The only time I use softmods is when my modchip doesn't play a game right, and usually USBGecko or some other program will run it for me. That and I use emulators a lot.

Well, I am already playing online and its a blast. Teaming up and hunt the monsters down^^ Mostly its that what you can and should expect from Monster Hunter.

Going online is easy:

1.) Delete your shop channel account- you will need your Wii serial no to do so.(option for deleting the channel is inside the shop channel)
2.) Install ARC(AnyRegion Changer) execute it and set your shop region to japanese=1(dont forget to save settings in ARC) then reboot to Wii system menu.
3.) Enter the shop channel and its japanese, accept the Eula and leave the shop channel.
4.) Start Monster Hunter and go online.(You will have to accept the online rules and stuff and select wether to get 20 free online days or 200 Wii points)
5.) Select Server and hunt ´em down^^

Thanks a lot for the answers. So i don't have to change my wii systems menu to Japanese, or my firmware to Ntsc-J in order to install the Japanese shop channel? Oh and that is excellent news that I can subscribe. Will definately buy the NTSC-U version if it has no subscriptions though when it comes out next year.

Edit: Ok I'm curious about something. When I opened Region Changer 1.1 I got an error 1XXXX(I don't remeber the numbers so I put X there) then I opened the settings changer. I didn't do anything at all but I see something that says WARNING: AREA/System Mismatch. So I'm assuming that they were mismatched from the start? That means my wii has been semi-bricked this whole time and I didn't notice? Is this normal? BTW I'm still on the screen I don't want to do anything that will mess it up and then reboot or anything.

Edit2: So I rebooted, but before doing so I changed the wii shop channel to 1. The wii is working fine, but I don't think I have the Japanese shop channel. Going to try to go online now.

Edit3: Didn't work. Maybe I should've pressed save? I don't want to mess with it anymore though. Please can anybody confirm if it is ok to continue like that or not?

Edit again: Here is a thread I found. http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=116560 It is the exact same thing with my Wii, except I didn't do anything.

Final Edit: I think I got the Japanese Shop Channel now. Thanks a lot for the help.

NVM I get an error 205958 when trying to start it.

Finally got the Wii Shop to work. The problem was when I didn't save the first time I went to the Wii Shop channel. Then I accepted it by accident when it was still NA. Without realizing that I had to delete my account again, I went and saved the Japanese one. That was why I got the error. I thought about it went back redeleted my account, and saved the japanese shop channel again, and now it works. Now I am going to try to connect online with MH3.

And the game works online. Thankfully.

Is my first post too confusing?

No tell me

For me, it is. Keep in mind that I know little on the whole homebrew scene, and usually just keep up with cIOSs and stuff. Never region changing.

EDIT: Nvm, got it.

Anyways, do you need to change the full region of your Wii to boot MH3 without crashes? I thought you only needed to change the Shop's region.

I tried using Gecko 1.9.2 (or w/e the latest one is), and it crashes after the main menu. If you need the whole Wii set to Japan, I just erased all my WiiWare purchases for nothing. ****. And I don't wanna switch Region, at the risk of brick.

EDIT 2: Nevermind, I tried loading through Gator Backup Launcher, and it freezes at the Menu. I now tried Gecko, and it tells me it find no DVD. It's a burnt version. I'm guessing it requires the actual copy of the game?

Can any one help me.

I'm trying to go online with monster hunter tri. I am running my ISO from a hard drive using usbloader gx. I followed the guide to go on line but it keeps telling me that i need to buy points. can anyone tell me where i'm going wrong?

You only can go online when using the DVD, means play the game using gecko os 1.9.2 and then you will be fine. You will need a jpn shop channel to get this working.

And you busted your free 20 days by trying to go online with usb loader. Now you will have to a) either buy points via jpn shopchannel or b) buy points card from play-asia or some other company which sells jpn points cards.

Thanks for getting back to me so fast.

So does it have to be the original or can i use a backup?

I only ask because i have the translations on my back up.
Thanks.

hi,

is it possible to change the video mode from ntsc to pal? with a video mode changer or something like that?

The game isn't out in the US yet. Try a month from now. Plus you're not supposed to ask for links here, as far as I know.

So what do you guys think that the chances of the Gamestop Preording being dumped are? I'm debating going to gamestop to grab it (from what I've heard you can get it w/o preorder), or just waiting for it to be dumped. Also I'm not playing the J version since the U release is so close.

Just wanted to let you all know if you Load Monster Hunter Tri (3) off a USB HD then you will want to select Jap language and force NTSC video using ISO 223 Hermes v.4 if you do this correctly then when you select to begin new game you will not get that awful buzzing sound and the game should load right up. Customize a character and have fun.
