Every version is region-locked. The only ones with region-locking lifted was on WiiU, and that's NA/EU regions only -- can't play with JP regions. 3DS, everything has to be same region. I think even Streetpass. You can tag other regions for Streetpass Plaza, but you'll get none for MH3U unless they're NA.
Ah sad to hear, but thanks for the definitive answer. I'm curious however if you learned this from testing or did you hear it from somewhere?

I belong in a rather large local Streetpass group. There are a few members with both JP and NA units, with MH3G/3U for their respective units. The other one might as well stop existing, as far as the other is concerned, lol. They tag each other for Streetpass Plaza, but absolutely nada for Monster Hunter. You won't get their guild cards, and they won't show up when you do a Hunter Search (this scans the area for players currently playing the game with their wifi on, whether village, solo or multi).

Can you play MH over wifi?

to play the 3ds version online you MUST have a wiiU connected to the Internet using a LAN adapter
and have the Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Packet Relay Tool installed on the wiiU

there is NO true online play for the 3ds version

you have an "ad-hoc party" type online play

the wiiU version has online play

I see, thanks.

When nintendo finally realises that the Wii-u is a failure and drops the price in a desperate bid to get some money back, thats when ill get one for the sole purpose of playing monster hunter 3U online. xD

Ah lame, well I really appreciate the info man! Thank ya very much.

Well now that i finished Fire emblem im back to this game, Picking up where i left off and i have quests to kill pink Rathian :hateit: Well... I hate this thing, she has one of THEE most anoying poison attacks in the Fecking game, that sweeping poison tail attack that has practically zero read time, it just comes outta nowhere and assuming im using a weapon i can block with, it still catches me offguard which makes my normal blocking tactics using the lance/gunlance pointless. Currently trying the power phial SA method and just going for power. It works for the most part but i swear that attack is causing some rage right now, i have 2 quests to kill her too...

On a positive note, forgot how awesome this game is and how much iv missed playing it. Iv started getting used to the switchaxe, its nice to have 2 weapons in 1, the axe mode is deff getting the most use, Sword mode is great for the smaller enemies or when enemies are stunned/trapped but axe mode is just all-round awesome, its amazing how the more you play this game, weapons you didnt like at the beginning start to become more useful. Im sure the day will come when i start using those bowguns too.

I don't get to cut the tail off, but I pwned the shit out of her with that hammer with ice pieces in record time for me (first encounter.) I can't imagine having to fight that with any lance.s.

The lance is a terrible weapon. It's slow, cumbersome, and you can only dodge backwards. Blocking is not optimal. It's better to not get hit at all. It only takes one fight to learn a monster's attacks, and you should be able to dodge all of them.

The switch axe is almost unfairly powerful. It damages just as much as any other weapon, it's only slightly slower than the sword and shield, which is compensated by continuous combinations, it can attack wide, it can attack high, you can do rush attacks, it has unbounceable attacks (in sword form), and the only negative aspect is that it cannot block, but blocking is worse than dodging nearly all the time (besides against large damage area and sweeping moves such as alatreons fire, deviljhos black thunder, and barroths ice, which are easy enough to see the monster preparing to do, and to get out of the way).

The only weapons I ever use (unless I'm experimenting) are the switch axe, great sword, long sword, and rarely the sword and shield.

I need to learn switch axe, I just haven't touched it. Finally gave sword and shield a chance, and liked it, just hate charpening all the time. Does the axe count as slashing I'd assume? Does it have any blunt attacks so to speak?

Touch it. It cut my battle time average by atleast 1/3 when I first started using it in Tri. The SnS is the greatest all around weapon. It has slashing and blunt (shield) attacks. You can 'jog' and use items with your weapon drawn. It has jump attacks, which help immensely in closing the gap between you and your target. Though quicksharpen is pretty necessary for early-game SnS.

The SA has no blunt attacks. The GS does, but only with one attack in the middle of a combo.

I was weighing up the pros and cons of the GS vs the SA and i just dont get why anyone would choose the GS. The SA deals out just as much damage imo, it has phials to make it even more powerful and its much MUCH easier to use. The GS has more power assuming you can connect with its hits but that is where the problem is, i can never connect a full charged hit solo, online with its others its probably much easier but yeah im not playing online yet. I upgraded both weapons tho because i had the mats and iv tried using both but iv yet to find a monster that was easier with GS, i dont mind the whole sheath weapon -> quick attack style gameplay, its just i find that the power isnt much different and i can make monsters stumble equally well with the SA so it makes the GS somewhat pointless.

I highly recommend trying to get used to the SA tho, the forward slash is like a mini lance charge, it has a high reach with A+X and the sword mode is great to wail on enemies who have fell over / trapped. It also has decent movement in axe mode, a power charge move in sword mode with A+X and then rapidly tapping X to unleash a very gunlance style blast hit and it looks cool. What more do you need? xD

The users in this topic are going to be very biased lol but what the hell, the game is fantastic! If you tried the demo and liked it then you will love the game, its the best version of the game too, it has all the decent weapons, the best roster of monsters and a bunch of extra content too and tons of (Free) DLC that keeps getting updated everytime i check it. If you have a Wii-u then you also have access to playing this online which increases the playability of this game by tons.

Get it.

The only thing I would change is (cliche/brace yourself) to give it the Elderscrolls treatment. Like all games, it would make it that much more grand. Imagine taking quests from town to town, getting in random heated battles in the wild, no loading screens, more variant nature and environments, etc.

I don't want the gameplay or combat to change. I just want the exploration elements of an Elderscrolls game. Different equipment available at varying shops in varying towns, actual important characters (making the game more story-based), and then a guild city where you can meet up with friends to "invite" into your world or go to theirs and go hunting.

When I see the openening videos of MH games, the areas look so vast. There are packs of monsters grazing, every aspect of nature working in harmony... that's what Monster Hunter should have been by half a decade ago. There's just so much Capcom can resist change and remain with the same mechanics and visuals of the PS2 games... but then again, Japanese developers have been resisting change since the 90's. It's time to evolve. There's no excuse now.

Monster hunter 4 has aparently got different villiages, i was readin about it last night and they said there was at least 2 (one with the cat people) and rumours that there could be a bunch of different ones. So, It might get better in the next game?

One thing i really want (kinda simular to what you said) is 1 villiage per map with the ability to free-roam it like you can with moga woods. Having each shop having better "buyable" gear is a good idea but the forge shop should be the same for every villiage. Load times are fine as is the ammount of "general" monsters on the map imo, it doesnt need to be cluttered and it WOULD get anoying when you're trying to fight a tough boss and random small enemies kept trolling you.

Storymode im not sure about.. it would be nice to have some sorta story i guess but i dont think its really that needed, online play IS needed tho and it sucks that the 3DS version of 3U didnt have it but im not too fussed that monster hunter doesnt have a story.

I pretty much plowed through the village quest in jaggi-gear. I made the barroth one, but didn't use it often due to it's elemental resistance.
