Local multiplayer and online multiplayer are different options in the game. It's one or the other. Besides, the hardware doesn't work like that - its either WiFi in adhoc for local multiplayer, or WiFi normal for online play. You can't have it both ways, and this is exactly why the Ethernet needs to be plugged in for the relay app to work.

So this local multi player, you cant do arena in 2 player like you could on tri. On the wii MH3 you could have some sort of multiplayer games right. So in this you can't now?

I haven't tried, but I think arena still works in multiplayer. Instead of talking to the guild quest giver on the left in the multiplayer part, you talk to the one on the right. But this isn't the same as playing 2 player in one house and 2 player in another house using the online lobby system to connect them.

That's why I differentiated between local and online multiplayer.

Anyone who wants to add me is welcome to. I'm currently on Village Rank 5, still HR1 Online. I use Hunting Horn/Switch Axe, and I have been playing since Monster Hunter 2.

My ID is SgtWiggles, I'm glad to play with any other new players or help you look for a specific item.
