OK so its been a while since I've had the time to up to date with this guide the last time i did this i believe rev15 or 17 was the latest at the time. Do i need to update now to continue or can i stay on 3.2u ? haven't done it since January. i still have all the files i used from back then if need be.

Thank you: in the meantime, I've managed to have the CIOS236 Installer working and I went through the entire guide without any problem.
I'll try the Trucha Bug Restorer next time: now I'm going to leave my Wii as it is !

There's definitely some issue with the cios 236 install portion, as I was getting the same errors mentioned on the previous page.
For troubleshooting purposes:
I first upgraded from 4.1u to 4.2u using the tutorial.
All directions followed exactly, in order.
Everything prior works perfectly....but it consistently errors out on the 236 install.
I tried the suggested fixes (setting up wireless internet [as connection 1]) which does not help.
I've tried and retried at least 10 times with the same error.
This is the 10th (or so) Wii I've modded, but the first with this method. I'll try using DOP to get a patched IOS36 and see if that works. Once I have IOS36, it's pretty much all the same from then on........

installing IOS236 is NOT working, just a bunch of errors every time I try o load it, the only way that worked for me to bypass that is updating to 4.3, softmod and then downgrade to 4.2, but its too risky and long....

try using IOS236 Installer v4, also, setting up an internet connection before hand should increase your chances of success (but be sure to say NO to the update popup)
Firstly thanks for your efforts to create an Easy guide to achieve a successful Softmod for the Wii!! Also to all concerned that offer time and patience to Help people solve their issues!!
But, unfortunately I have screwed up trying to Upgrade a previously Softmodded SM4.1E to 4.2E!!!! I was using the up42e.zip and extracted files to 2Gb Sandisk SD Card, I didn't reinstall the Homebrew Channel as I was already on v1.0.8. I also had Wad Manager v1.42 installed as a Channel. I Ran Multi-Mod Manager from the Homebrew Channel. I installed IOS70-64-v6687.wad and System Menu-NUS-v482.wad.
Now this is where I made my first mistake I didn't install the extra 28 wad file in the Other Folder!!!!!
I checked to see if it was showing that it was now running SM4.2E, which it was but obviously minus the 28 wads. Thinking that it was Updated I moved on to the 4.2 Modding Guide, but when it came to installing the 4.2 version of the Bannerbomb it wouldn't load from the SD card, it just wanted to work as if to save game saves. I uninstalled the old Homebrew channel thinking that may be why the newer version wouldn't install, but no go same problem! I realized eventually that I hadn't installed the 28 wads previously so as I still had the Wad Manager Channel still installed I went back and reinstalled the Update IOS70-64-v6687.wad and System Menu-NUS-v482.wad and each 28.wad files from the Folder individually. Unfortunately I still can't install the Bannerbomb (I've tried all versions for 4.2) or get the Homebrew Channel to install. I have also uninstalled the wad channel as well thinking that may have been preventing it to install as well!!!!

are you sure you're using the correct SD menu...you should be using the one on the main screen...where you'd transfer your VC games back and forth....not the one in data management menu....??
Thank's for the guide I was on 4.2 but had some out of date IOS's, cIOS's and wasn't sure what one's I needed.
The only problem I had was installing the 4.2mod but I changed the ios to 236, for some reason it was set to 36 and kept failing.
