My ntsc wii is semi bricked, so I can't go to the settings menu.
How can I check to see what versions I have, so I can either modify or install the newst one to fix my problem?
I think I installed 4.2 several months ago, but I don't remember if I downgraded afterwards, or if I installed 4.2E by mistake.

Before I used this guide my Wii was setup with everything need for HBC, Priiloader, etc and I used GXloader to run backups. When Monster Hunter came out I installed Hermes v5 and some v19 cIso but then my USB drive wasn't being detected after I did this. I followed this guide to try and fix things and everything worked but I ran into problems in the "Restoring the Trucha Bug, Removing Stub IOS's, Installing cIOS & Patching the System Menu IOS" part. Every wad installs apart from cIos222 (38+37)v4.wad and cIos223(38)v4.wad. When these two wads try to install they return with errors but then goes on to install the remaining wads.

Is there another way to install these two wads or have I foobared my Wii in someway?

I think you skipped a step. You need to delete the stubs for IOS222 and IOS223.

I went back to delete Stubs and it says there are no stubs found. I did though have a look in IOS Manager and it says that both Ios 222 and 223 are intstalled as v65535. In blue text it tells me that they are a Hermes cIos or Stub. What should I do now? Do I need the versions of Isos contained in this guide?

GXloader r921 is working and I can load backups through the USB drive but Monster Hunter gives me that noise error when you hit start.

megadown ...

You should read the topic related specifically to Monster Hunter Tri... There they will explain how to run the game perfectly.

All I can tell you now is that you should use revision 5 Hermes cIOS, but I'm not sure exactly which one... If you have downloaded the cIOS pack that this guide gives you the link then Its gonna be easier...
Just install the WAD of the cIOS that the other topic will tell you to.

Good Luck.

I looked at this guide for Moster Hunter, is this the same one you are talking about?

Should I use Anytitle Deleter to remove ios 222 & 223, then reinstall them with the ones from this guide and then install Hermes v4 ??

I'm a little confused on this apart

hey guys,

i've used this guide a few times in the past. it used to give instructions on installing hermes 222/223. i'm pretty sure thats the reason why i can not get my usb loader gx to work. i followed this updated guide down to the letter. however, once i open the loader and get to the list of games, it freezes as soon as i select it.

i clicked the link it gives, but it just describes the loaders. some knowledge would be appreciated.

My Wii is LU51 running system menu 4.2U. I use USB Loader GX but it also has a modchip that was installed a few years ago.

Just recently, my Wii has been having random crashes in games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii. Sometimes when a game needs to load to a new menu/level the screen goes black and crashes. It's not because of the USB drive because I still get the same problem when I boot with the normal disc channel.

I tried to update all of my IOS with PimpMyWii, but I still have this problem. What should I do?

I have a 3.3U wii that I'm attempting to softmod with the ops tutorial, I'm at the end of the update to 4.2 part, but I think I've hit a snag. It got to

Installing Shopping Channel-NUS-v18.wad...
Installing content #62...

in Yet Another WAD Manager Mod, but it has been there for over 15 minutes. Does it normally take this long or is it stuck?

Edit: I turned it off after another 20 minutes. Then tried uninstalling and re-installing Shopping Channel-NUS-v18.wad, it didn't work so I got another copy of the wad from another site and it still stopped at content #62. I gave up and skipped it and finished the guide. Now I have a softmodded 4.2U Wii, but it doesn't have the shopping channel at all. It is nowhere to be found. I know it's not a major problem, but if anyone might know how to fix it I would greatly appreciate the help.

Edit again:Nevermind, after a lot of fiddling around I got it to work. For anyone interested I deleted the remains of my old shopping channel with AllTitleDeleter, then I had to reinstall it with the wad file using ios249(when I tried with the default ios36 it hung on content #62 again). After that I had the shopping channel again, but it froze on the first loading screen so I installed the wad over it this time using ios36. Now the loading screen didn't freeze, but it never stopped loading. Using manage wii channels in MMM, I reinstalled the shopping channel from Nintendo's server. This caused it to no see the shopping channel as the newest version and ask me to update it when I tried to run it. Instead, I installed the wad file again(with ios36 if it matters) and finally I was to get it work. Thinking about it, I might have been able to skip using alltitledeleter and the first ios36 wad install, though.

@megadeoxys
that is a common error that happens when you use IOS249 to load the system menu. most likely you have turned on some stupid preloader or startpatch hack to do that. load your system menu with the correct IOS and it will be fine.

I'm rety sure that they give you the cIOS wads in the modify.zip file that you get in the email
but anyway the best option is
222 - 38 merge 37
223 - 38
202 - 38 merge 60

Hello all,

im currently on 4.0E with HBC, Neogamma and all my IOSs set up. Is there a way for me to JUST update my version to 4.2E and keep all my current settings?
Following only the update part will not touch your cIOSs/BootMii/...
So you can do that

Optionally, skip the installation of IOS36 (if it's even included in the update guide) if you want to keep it patched

QUOTE(madmax23 @ Apr 22 2010, 01:48 PM) Thanks for the guide it worked perfectly!! I followed it word for word and updated from 3.2e to 4.2e on 2 wii's.
Could someone tell me if this guide/files be used on a hacked wii at present on 3.2e (which was downgraded over a year ago with the twighlight hack and has the homebrew channel using this guide http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=118446 ) so that it can be upgraded to 4.2e? I've looked online but can't find anyone with the same question. I've seen many guides on upgrading (none as good as this one) but the instructions don't mention that it can be used on a hacked wii is that because of potential problems? Any help would be much appreciated.

ANY wii includes hacked ones

Thanks alot for the help, i thought it meant any version wii that is still unhacked. i'm hoping in trying in a couple of days but one more question(sorry last one!!) i also have starfall installed, should i just follow this guide from start to end or do i need to uninstall starfall first as it blocks updates apparantly. Thanks again i really appreciate your help. I know it must get annoying answering the same questions again and again but only after searching for days and days on the subject have i deicided to ask to be sure before hacking this wii.

Already hacked wii's can also be re-hacked

I don't know if you should remove Starfall first, probably not. (I think you can run it and disable all hacks manually).

I'm not annoyed at all by these questions btw

Just what i was looking for! thanks a bunch dude!

I'm trying to install 4.2u, but the wad installer keeps giving me the DSI error. I tried around 10 times.
What can I do?

Also, I instaleed DVDX, but I can't play dvd's through the backup channel.

can you post a pic of DSI error code?

use yet another wad manager mod then to install the WADs in the same order.

Yet another wad manager is the one that gives me the DSI error, I can't install anything with it, including what you gave me.
What is it's propose?
Also, I already have HBC and what not, so all that's left is to upgrade it to 4.2.

EDIT:

Yours seems to work. I'll install with the guide and let you know.

What the hell. when I try to insall System Menu-NUS-v481.wad, it says that it won't install the wrong region. But my wii is NTSC, what's going on here?

Thanks for your guides they are great. I was using your previous guide with rev17 and yesterday I did a friends wii with your new rev19 but something when I load my usb loader forwarder it will restart my wii. I use the same usb loader drive on my wii with out any resets.I was wondering how can I go back to rev17. Can I load the old modify files and go to the step of

Installing Cios & patching the system menu IOS

Run Wad Manager 1.5 and install

cIOS202[38+60]-v4.wad
cIOS222[38+37]-v4.wad
cIOS223[38]-v4.wad
cIOS249-v17.wad
cIOS250-v17.wad
IOS70-64-v6687[TB+ES_div+NAND].wad
Press 1 to install the cIOS's

Or do I have to do the whole guide over?
Thanks in advance

Does anybody have any input on this?
