xzxero said:As I said earlier, the reason some Wii's can install bootmii to boot2 and some can't is dependent on what version of boot2 their Wii has. It's actually dependent on the boot1 on your Wii which is something along the lines of being read-only, but not quite. Point being, that can't be changed. If your Wii was bought sometime after mid 2008 or so, chances are you have either a boot2v3 or boot2v4 Wii, and these Wii's have the fixed boot1. These Wii's cannot install bootmii to boot2 because in those versions, the bug used to install it there was fixed. This cannot be changed or downgraded in any way, so if you have one of these Wii's YOU CANNOT AND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO INSTALL BOOTMII TO BOOT2. So unfortunately you will have to miss out on the brick protection bootmii offers you if you have one of these Wii's, unless Team Twiizers releases a version of bootmii that can be installed as the system menu IOS or something, which is more of a theoretical possibility marcan mentioned that may or may not ever happen. HERE is that article marcan wrote on Bootmii. It's a good read, go ahead and read it, I'll wait...xflak40 said:This sounds weird to me, i thought updating to 4.2 via nintendo stopped u from ever installing bootmii as boot2, can some1 confirm or deny this?
EDIT: if bootmii was installed as boot2, then you update to 4.2 via ninty, you should still be able to reinstall bootmii as boot2, correct?
if you can install boot2 on your wii, you can always do it, no matter what.

1. why wouldnt you need everything else? you can try to use dop-ios without but it wont work. follow the guide as a whole. that way you dont run into any problems.Nickb1907 said:Just got your newmod.rar loaded to SD card went to bannerbomb and it froze.
I have a lu66 virgin and did have a lu33 modded all the way with usb loader and everything. Sent the lu33 in to nintendo for pixel problem they sent lu66 back.
Do you know why its freezing off the bat?
wiimenu 4.2u
are you going to the right spot?
Boot2 seems to be down to the age of the Wii. Older ones seem to offer the option and newer ones you can't. I've a couple of questions of my own, sorry if these have been answered but search did not show me the answers?ZakMcRofl said:Thanks for the guide.
But this guide does NOT work for "any Wii", at least not the backup part.
The latest Wii's with D3-2 chipset does not launch backups from DVD, no matter what.
It may be my fault for not reading every thread on the forums but adding a note to that regard would not hurt.
it still works for any wii because those wii's can still load off a USB loader using the cIOS from the guide.
so its still modded.
no, an update from nintendo would remove boot2, you would have to update first, then reinstall bootmii and hbc.mle said:So suppose I have one of theses Wii with ability to install bootmii/boot2 + unmodded + System menu < 4.2.
1) Start 3.X - 4.1 Method
...
Run bannerbomb by going to the SD Card menu and choosing yes to load boot.dol
This runs the Hackmii Installer from which you should install the Homebrew Channel, DVDX, and Bootmii as IOS and boot2 if possible. (here boot2 is possible with the supposition above)
...
2) do not start 1a]
3) quit and make a update to 4.2 from ninty
4) go back and get start from the begining of 4.2 Method
I guess this way will keep boot2 on the system.
But update to 4.2 from a virgin wii first and start 4.2 Method will install a boot2v3 or boot2v4 . So "YOU CANNOT AND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO INSTALL BOOTMII TO BOOT2" (nabster92)
Is it the right way?

1. A friend of mine is also doing Wii's but he recons he only needs to do Hackmii and install the new patched IOS70. He is not doing any trucha bug, title deleter or CIOS 222/223 changes?- is this OK, or is he missing a trick. From what I've read the TRucha bug needs doing to allow a proper install for HB to work?
2. Since using your 4.2 version I cannot get Preloader 3 to install. It says found ticket but then gives an error and does not install. I did get one to install .29 and then updated to 3 but the other wouldn't have it at all - any ideas?
Thanks for the continued top tut on Wii Hacking btw!
ctswoosh said:I'm running a soft mod Wii and by mistake ran the 4.2 update. I tried following the steps above and nothing is working. When I click on the USB Loader channel to launch the games, it flashes the USB Loader logo and brings me right back to the Wii Home.
Any suggestions? Anyone know what to do if you already had a soft mod and then upgrade to 4.2??
Thanks in advance.
