Hacking moddable/updatable?

i have an xbox from late 2008-ish and i've been using the wave 4 disk to play games but recently those doesnt work on the newer ones anymore like skyrim etc. i brought the thing to a guy that does updating and he didnt even open it up he said that it can't play the newer games because it has a samsung drive. is this true so my xbox is now useless to play new games like skyrim, dbz tenkaichi etc... ??? is there a way to make those games playable without me opening up my box? thanks

The guy is an idiot. Ask him to flash it to LT 2.01 for you. That will allow you to play XGD3 games and any wave XGD2 game. You still have to open your Xbox of course.

The best thing to do is update the 360 to the latest dashboard (14699) wich can be downloaded from the MS website.
Then you got 2 options.

RGH aka Reset glitch hack:
The new "jTAG" wich means NO live acess but can do everything what a jTAG can do.
Or a DVD Drive flash.

Means that your Sammy drive will be updated to LT 2.1
Allowing all games to be booted again.

XGD3 is the new format of 360 games.
They come in 8.13 GB ISO images instead of the regular 7.29 GB

Ask him to flash your drive back to stock and then update the 360.

No it won't.

Sammy's can be updated to LT 2.01 no matter what.
They play XGD3 backups just as fine.
