Adjust for better disc reading? Uhh, I think you're misunderstanding my problem. (Or I'm misunderstanding something)
The chip doesn't do anything, not even when holding start. How is that related to disc reading?

I'm not really sure what you need to know, you acknowledge that it doesn't do anything when you press Start, doesn't read games, and the lights don't come on.

It's most likely just a bad install that should be redone, but there's also the chance it's just a dead chip. My advice: reinstall the chip.

There's nothing wrong with the wireless install IMO, if done properly. The people saying wirelessly is bad, probably just installed it incorrectly and then the internet seems to then think all of them are bad. But with wires is probably better for people less proficient at soldering.

Hello, I trying to solder it. As you saw is first photos. Tested mod chip connection and main controller. The second time i removed it gently and soldered new one but with wires, also tested connections with multi meter. And nothing new. it reads only original disc. Non original (dark disc) cube trying to recognize with laser without turning it. Nothing. When orange led should be on? Just after power on or after start? (i'll find tv to connect it, maybe will be something human readable) Thanks for help

@sinktoma
Hello. Thanks for writing here.
So from what I understand you tried again and it still doesn't do anything?
From what I've seen yes, led should turn on after power on.
And for which chip to use, I guess it doesn't matter at this point. I thought my last one might be bad so I got a new one but if both are not working it's probably something else.

Thanks for all of your help though. ^_^

When you get the new one, I would strongly advise installing it like this photo instead. It's not my image, but it's pretty much what I do. You can secure it in place with the screw that's already there and it makes the soldering a lot easier.

Whoa that's a sweet plan. When I did mine I used what's called the "short wire" method. I used clipped capacitor legs for my "short wires." It's kind of a compromise between a wired install and direct soldering, where you first solder a short length of thin wire to each pad on the board, then thread the XenoGC over the wires so each one is in place for the corresponding contact on the modchip. Bend all the wires over, drop a small dollop of solder on each, clip the excess wire. It makes the connection more certain than with direct soldering.

But next time I do a GC, if there is a next time, I'm using the method in this photo. Very good.

If you're going to be doing a few installs, I highly highly recommend buying an out of region game to test the chip with.
Example: if you live in Europe, get a US or Japanese game.

Just get the cheapest game possible (usually a sports game) from another region on eBay for like $5-10.

Then you can find out the chip is working instead of guessing whether it's the laser or the disc or the chip.

Thanks for all of you guys help. Especially to sinktoma. So now I'm at the point where leds are working, I can get to xeno gc shell by holding start.
And for backups... cube reads them... but doesn't load them. It's trying to for a long time, and then for some it gives up, for others it just reads them infinitely but screen still shows gamecube logo.

So, am I correct assuming that the only step left for me is to adjust the pot?

Now it is the right time for it:
