MLC listed as optional but NAND-AID needs it?

Just trying to get confirmation. Why is the MLC listed as optional if you have to flash the MLC onto an SD card in order to boot? I am getting ready to prep a few Wii Us due to the eventuality of the eMMC dying in them and wanted to confirm. I backed up the SLCs but the documentation I kept seeing said MLC is needed for this (as well as being listed as optional everywhere else). I’m currently backing up the MLC on one which can takes 2-3 hours in some cases, it seems.

Is there some tool that is regenerating the MLC from the SLC?

Because the contents of the MLC can be easily rebuilt, using titles downloaded from Nintendo's servers. You will lose all your data doing this, obviously.

Just back up your saves. MLC is mainly for Cafe OS which can be redownloaded easily. Think of Windows and your userdata.
