I had .cia games installed on emunand, and recently used tinyformat to unlink the nands. Now my games are gone (as expected) but the space is still used up on my SD card as if they're still there. Does anyone know what's going on and could help me out?

In the Nintendo 3ds folder located on the root you should have some folders with random names. The one that occupies more space is the one that the nand you formated used to store cia games data.

Cia files were already deleted before doing this.
I see the folder mentioned above, can I transfer the files over to the other folder? Or do they have to be deleted and the .cia reinstalled?

No that would not work. Each nand have a specific encryption. You need to reinstal the cias.

You have to back up the Nintendo 3D folder before you use Tiny Format. Because Tiny Format, formats!!!

Tiny Format just leave the NNID data and some other data intact/still linked. Not your installed games.

Yeah I backed up my SD card before doing this, though I'm not really sure what for. If I'm reading JJTapia's post right I can't bring back anything.

Alright, thanks for the help so far. I'm assuming it's safe to delete entire folder that has my installed games right?

With Tiny Format, if you have backup of the Nintendo 3DS before formating : 1. If Tiny Format on EMUNAND -> Sysnand will work with the back up Nintendo 3DS folder 2. If Tiny Format on SYSNAND -> EMUNAND will work with the back up Nintendo 3DS folder.

Unlinking using Tiny Format = making EMUNAND different to SYSNAND while not removing NNID data (and some other data someone better know about this than me). Which NAND you use Tiny Format on => settings, games, apps... will be wiped => need to be reisntalled.

Unlinking NANDs you should think it as now you can run 2 Operating system on the same PC.

So, if I used it in my Emunand all is gone isn't?

But about the space... I just need to reinstall the CIA? or should I delete the Nintendo 3DS folder and reinstall the CIA for a fresh install?

Thanks in advance.

PS: What's better? using tiny format or using Nintendo's format tool?

I don't understand what you want to do here.

Tiny format is preferred as you don't have to link your NNID again on either SYSNAND or EMUNAND.

What should be done is: back up Nintendo 3DS folder -> tiny format emunand or sysnand (preferably emunand for you don't want to re set up menunhax in most case again on sysnand) -> set up setting son either EMUNAND or SYSNAND -> restore Nintendo 3DS folder and merge if being asked.

But if I format my emunand then my activity log and that will be wiped won't be?

If that'd be my main system then I think is recommended to wipe sysnand.

Unfortunately for me I've wiped the emunand and my stuff is gone I've a backed up but as the games didn't showed up in the emunand then thought they were gone too so i just deleted the stuff of the 3DS folder and reinstalled the CIAs, but of course the savegames are missing.

Btw you've mentioned that if I use tiny format in the sysnand then MenuHax is gone.

I didn't used that, to enter to my rxtools I used to access with the profile thing and after formatting the emunand, not sysnand I couldn't access anymore using that exploit, I've needed to reinstall it.

False the games are intact on sysNAND after tiny format, just not the games installed with emuNAND

But does they work?

As my sysnand was too low I've never could opened a file, so I supposed CIAs installed in emunand won't work in sysnand.

But of course I couldn't assure that.

Dude, He was asking about EMUNAND. See what I quoted. So Tiny Format EMUNAND, you need to re install apps/games on EMUNAND while the NNID not being unlink from Nintendo server.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway

    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
