I don't understand why people get so up in arms about being banned. Oh no, I can't purchase over-priced digital only Nintendo slop, whatever will I do! And who even plays online? Playing with other people sucks.

You mean the "not quite as good as emulated BOTW from 2020" version? Big fat meh.
i don't care for playing online either. But i thought i read somewhere they can brick your device remotely.

They updated their TOS to give themselves the right which other companies already do, it's not something that flies in Europe, and there is to my knowledge no cases of it happening or confirmed means they would personally go about doing it. Seems like right now, if they choose to start doing this in the future, it just gives them a weak legal justification, but I doubt it's indicative of any plans. They will probably just ban you like always but I guess we will see.

I seem to recall a bricking issue back in the Wii days with some users updating their console after softmodding. I forget the details but this is likely just Nintendo covering themselves legally for any future incidences where modded Switches (or Switch 2's if that ever becomes possible) where they push an update that might brick units. Most likely won't be an intentional effort but depending on the softmod/hacks people use that is a possibility and this is just them covering it in the ToS so they don't get sued.

For anyone that has used their Mig on Switch 2, if the game needs update…. Can the game be updated locally, with the use of a hacked Switch 1?

And before people start saying there’s no point in Mig if you have a hacked switch 1…. Hear me out, a combo of hacked switch 1 and Switch 2 using a Mig might be worth having a banned Switch 2. You can always buy another Switch 2 to play online.

But with the backwards compatibility of switch 2 making a lot of games run better… it might be worth having banned $450 Switch 2, but have access to play hundreds of Switch 1 games with better performance. And having a hacked switch 1, means you can locally update those games to their latest version even if both switch’s are banned.

Yes, you can. Here are the instructions from the Nintendo website.
Games can be updated over a local network, both between Switch 2 - Switch 2, and between Switch 2 - Switch 1. The main thing is that the two switches have the same firmware version. Therefore, it is now important to find out whether it will be possible to update the firmware on the banned Switch 2.

Not immediately banned and i'm downloading them all again now. i'll check again in a week or so.
If you do get banned, please check if you can update the firmware on the banned Switch 2.
Thank you so much for your testing!

This should work HOWEVER you will only have the base Switch 1 updates, not any compatability or performance updates for Switch 2.

It's mostly about loosing the ability to update everything and download patches.

In addition to preventing Switch 2 focused updates a ban will likely prevent game key cards from being used as well.

Hey guys, just a quick tip. If you use MIG Switch with your Switch 2 and keep it offline to avoid getting banned, you can also transfer game updates and improvements from your Switch 1 to your Switch 2. I tested it myself, from CFW Switch1 FW 19.0.1 to Switch2 FW 20.1.1, and you don't need WLAN/Internet for it :D !!!

Excuse my poor English

Awesome, thanks for the confirmation! I'm glad to hear that you can still update the Switch 1 games by matching the game version locally.

Just updated my mig switch to 1.2.0 but its still not working on my switch 2. It reads the games but the games don't launch. My mig switch is a v1 if that matters

EDIT:
Taking out the game card while the light is green and putting it back in causes it to work
Yeah you have to eject it once after the 1.2.0 Update is done and then reinsert Mig.

That was targetting exported consoles out of Korea that were region swapped to anything else, good old Error 003

Likely due to reselling elsewhere in SEA where Japan region software was much more plentiful more than anything else.

How can you transfer "improvements", when they are switch 2 only?

Games like BOTW received Switch 2 Edition update so I guess that, if you have a Switch 1 version of the game on your MIG Switch, you can update it to the latest 1.8.1 Switch 2 Edition upgrade. Not sure if the Switch 2 cart of the BOTW Is actually in a Switch 2 game format instead of Switch 1 game format, if you know what I mean?

So lets be honest who's thinking of trying the "full dumps" you can find online? :)
That will most likely get your console banned or, at the very least, flagged for a ban whenever it happens.

So the update is not Switch 2 specific?

I have tested and working for me without any issues.

Mig switch from ali express
SanDisk Ultra 512gb - Class 10 A1 MicroSDXC U1 I (Grey one).
My own clean dumps.
Yep this is exactly how I will be doing this. Also ordered from Ali Express and hopefully arriving soon
