I have read from here and there that the micro sd reader that was included with the first wave of R4's REALLY sucked, but what about the current ones? I haven't heard anything at all about them, which I assume is a good thing.

BTW: has anyone seen a skin to go with the OS X visual style? I was thinking of making my own but I wanted to see if there already was one.

Thanks in advance!

I sell the 2nd version of the R4's to my friends and I advice them not to use the readers.
But they're really stubborn and use it anyway, haven't had a complaint yet though....

thanks! I'm gonna get a spare sd card, and it comes with a reliable reader anyway, but I just wanted to see how good the R4 reader was.

Hey I'm not sure about the OS X skin, but you might wana read through 900+ pages of the r4 skin thread.

Whoo! I had a first wave microSD reader! Made my computer freeze up and fail to boot for a good three hard resets. The reader then got really hot and ceased function.

I LOVE MY R4!

whats so bad about those readers???

i have a cheap looking external sd reader which i could use. would that be better than the 1st gen R4 readers?

It's best just to get a MobileReader from SanDisk.
But everything is better then the first R4 release.

Just to be safe.
(There we're reports it burned through a microSD card.)

the one that i have is fine, it doesnt turn hot or anything or burn my card lol

I think its the latest batch of R4s

holy sh*t!

i have both 1st and 2nd gen. been using both, no probs at all. mine dont even get hot. i may consider just paying 3-4 bucks for a safer solution though...but mine have been working fine for me.

Myself & everyone of my friends that got an R4 got the small black reader with the
2 diamonds on it. And they have been all working great; it was mainly the very first
readers that had problems.

anyway, according to this thread: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=46601
the crystal-pyramid usb reader is the older one, and thats what i use most of the time. been using it 2months+, works like a charm. i also have the "2nd gen" one, but i dont use it as often. it seems to "squeeze" my microsd card a lot harder, and that scares me

i don't care for the reader that came with my R4. it could just be mine, but when i slide the mSD in it feels rough and just seems bad for the card. works though.

mine felt rough the first few times, so i bought a SD reader (already had a microSD to SD adapter), but by the time i got it (3 days after R4) the reader already worked smoothly, so i returned the SD. been using the packaged one, and i'm A-Okay.

the micro sd reader packaged with my r4 looks and works really good, got metal casing and seems pretty sturdy

granted, it has only been plugged to my computer about twenty times, but no freeze ups so far
