I tried patching it and after it says "Save Data cannot be read". Anyone else getting this problem?
If you're using an R4 you need the latest firmware.

WTF has R4 firmware got to do with GBA games?

I'm using the latest firmware and it loads my EFA just fine.

edit: technically, that's a lie, sometimes it says it can't find anything in slot 2, so I have to powercycle the DS (then it usually works first time), but my EFA is faulty, so I always assume that's the problem.

Weird, I've done the patch tutorial (i dont know how to apply ips patches and stuff so i just did the tutorial) and I'm still getting japanese text in the options and combat school screen like some other people, is there a workaround for this?

bunnybreaker, is your patch to English or American?

Edit: Whichever language it's in, it work's a treat! Cheers, mate!

I swapped "jp" with "gb", so technically, it's UK English, but I suspect the US and GB variants are the same.

For those of you who own a mac, use this patcher

found here: http://www.zophar.net/utilities/patchutil/uips.html

its for the ips patch

Cool, so there are Mac IPS patchers, I thought there would be.

Applying an IPS patch is extremely easy. http://fusoya.eludevisibility.org/lips/index.html

Thanks DarthNemesis, I really should have added some more ifo, but I assumed (wrongly) that everyone knows about IPS patches. Damn, now I think about it, I have been using IPS patches for over 10 years.

For anyone that doesn't know, there is no way to get 100% English, but it's really not necessary, the patches translate the missions in challenge mode, the character descriptions and some other stuff, you don't really need the few things left in Japanese.

edit: Thank you Dominator for putting a link in the first post
