Fry's Electronics (the place that had the og htc vive) doesn't exist anymore. if memory serves right, said vr display was gone after about a month after my chance to hop on it. Well before Alyx was even a twinkle in anyone's eyes at VALVe. The setup
was not at all conducive to being able to relax with it.
To date, nobody ever has had an Oculus of any kind to try out. And that is rather important given how most headsets literally do not fit my damn head. Telling me however much a given headset is doesn't mean eff all if the damn thing won't fit comfortably. As a side note, Oculus is right out banned for the integration with Zuck. Eff that ecosystem; I don't care how good they claim their experience or fitment is.
That literally just leaves the original PS VR. Which, while low res, once I had the second session where I was able to fiddle with it enough to see through it clearly, was responsive enough to consider. Except for the problem that
that is tied to the PlayStation ecosystem, which does me no favors at all.
I
wish AR was more prevalent, since locking out my peripherals as seemingly required by VR definitely gives me anxiety. But that is neither here nor there.
Regardless of what anyone says about how good it is, I cannot justify $1200 for an index, for one game. And the resolution on these high-end headsets practically says
gimme 4090 or eff off vibes. Which is
another two grand for the card (because AIB's still think we're in peak crypto territory
), something like $300 for a PSU with that stupid new connector that catches on fire, and about $300 for the gpu waterblock, because fuck taking up 4+ expansion slots for a cooler that can't keep temps under control. Arizona is cook food on the pavement hot; this is not up for debate. Don't @ me.
