You have a fake SD card, good luck getting your money back.

It put dummy files on there to test everything.

It puts dummy data to check various things like write speeds or if the files get corrupted. You can go ahead and delete them or just format and burn the card since it's a bad one anyway.

yes as just about any sd card that tests out like this is a defect

as said, defective. many places that sell cheap sdcards work fine for like a bit then start breaking down later (like headphones) id reccomend getting something mid-priced.

Generally speaking there's no real way to know if a SD card will be good until you get your hands on it. This is why it's advisable not to buy from shady places like eBay where the majority are not even real brand name, so always buy from a reputable place and a recognizable brand. Currently I'm using a 64gb SanDisk that I've had a little over 1.5 years and I've had zero problems with but your mileage will vary because not all SD cards are made equal.

but they don't have that space, so when the PC or 3DS tries to write to them eventually, it starts overwriting and corrupting existing data. When it ends up like your test did, you have one of those fake SD cards. Same thing happens with USB sticks.

No, 64 GB (micro) SDXC cards work fine on the 3DS and all of their space is usable. 32 GB is the maximum size for which Nintendo bothered to test what works. As long as the SD card is formatted to FAT32 (with a cluster size of 32K or 64K), it will work fine. I've been using a 64 GB SanDisk microSDXC and has worked just as well as the 32 GB card (also SanDisk) I was using previously.

I'd recommend a SanDisk micro SD, but get a different adapter. I also recommend Easus Partition Master to format your new 64GB MSD. 3DS can handle 256GB, but that might be N3ds?

it has to be formatted to fat32 (which gets unstable on bigger cards) but it works ive been using a 64gb samsung evo
