Even though there are very few games that benefit from or make use of GameCube controllers on Wii U/Switch, I was surprised to find that if the 8BitDo Retro Receiver (Bluetooth adaptor) was daisy-chained with a third-party GameCube USB controller adaptor (WUP-028 clone), it simply wouldn't work.

Power doesn't appear to be an issue because the adaptor blinks and even connects to a compatible controller, but inputs simply don't get registered no matter what port the adaptor was plugged into.

Is this also the case with a genuine WUP-028 USB controller adaptor? Is it merely an issue with the 8BitDo Bluetooth adaptor? It is a bummer that I can't use my modded wireless GameCube controller (or any other compatible controller) in cases where the 8BitDo Bluetooth adaptor's USB connection doesn't work, and I'd also like to update my article on the mod kit and adaptor.

For reference, here's an image of 8BitDo Retro Receiver:

For me I have the 8bitdo Ultimate 2 Wireless, it works with Bluetooth for PC, with the wireless USB C adapter, or with the USB C Cable plugged into the device.

I've tried many adapters, all of them the wireless adapter and controller connect, no inputs detected. Afaik it's an issue with the switch using a wireless adapter through any other adapters or hubs. I have several USB C hubs with HDMI, and USB C for data, and for power, essentially a dock. None of these adapters enabled my 8bitdo controller to work through the adapter.

Can you please clarify your setup? Are you even using a WUP-028 or clone thereof? For reference, I am taking about this adaptor:

As far as I can tell, you're trying to connect some not-even-remotely-GameCube controller using not-even-remotely-GameCube-related adaptors. Was your intention using Ultimate 2 Wireless as a GameCube controller on Switch (analogue trigger support)?

It turns out that's a problem with the WUP-028 clone. I found a documented case of daisy-chaining WUP-028 with BlueRetro adaptor working, and I tried a BlueRetro adaptor myself just to end up with an error state after which it cannot progress (LEDs: solid blue, flashing red), regardless of plugging one or both ends of the Y cable.

After much agony and no result, I gave up trying to find an adaptor that is known to work in this scenario...

All I could find is that Nintendo WUP-028 and Mayflash W012 are confirmed to work, but neither are being sold in EU, nor could I find used market deals that weren't prohibitively expensive to import.

Please, if you have both a BlueRetro or 8BitDo adaptor and a WUP-028 clone of any kind, try daisy-chaining them and report back here. I was so eager to use a NS2 NSO NGC controller on various devices that didn't support a direct connection, but fate wasn't on my side.
