if i play download play against a friend with a 6.2 fw 3ds will it try to download the update or is there no way a 3ds can transfer the update from system to system? If anyone knows for sure would be useful as seems like a lot of fun to play and they dont own mk7.

as far as i know download play doesn't affect your system fw. i played a few times with someone with fw 4.5 , while i was 5.1, so you should be fine.

I'm pretty sure that's not how Download Play works, and even if it did it would only require the firmware version MK7 came with which is probably lower than what you have.
