OMG. This is fucking fun. Just like the computer version =D Great.
This really really need a translation!

Or you could wait until December 2010 or May 2011 when it goes the way of RAGNAROK ONLINE and has an English Release.
Give non-English games a few months to see if it is going to be released in the states before deciding to combine group efforts to translate the game.
If you are impatient then at least wait until E3 2010. Surely a game like Maplestory DS will be announced at a gaming event like E3, CES, TGS, or PAX

This one's different. There's not a large chance this will be localized although its been reported that Nexon is thinking about it. We're not a 100% sure. There are contributing Korean speakers here on the Temp, we're just in need of a hacker to decode the text.

In terms of player base... I think Ragnarok's is larger than MapleStory's by a good portion.
Given how unlikely it was for Ragnarok DS to be translated, I don't have high hopes for MapleStory.
 
Thanks elixirdream for the patch! it is working on Supercard SD on the oldest nds system.

now I, as a thieve, am at part which is together with the warrior... no freezes since registration...

I already translated new file creation and thief/warrior route intro

I need a hacker to extract script for me to continue. Also, an editor would be good since I have terrible grammar.

I tested it on R4 Wood* with the patch, I played untill a bit after I beat the first boss. No freezes. Nothing. I guess I can confirm it works.

*: I don't know the versions name but it's the first that came out.

I could,
but I've stated that I will not be starting a translation project because I don't know anything about ROM's.
I do not know what 'rom hacking' is and because I run Mac OSX, I doubt I am in the position to even try.
If someone more knowledgeable about rom hacking / patching is willing, he or she should start the translation thread.

The only thing I can do is translate.
 
Bad news for those who have no knowledge in the Korean language. My warrior got stuck in a riddle requiring you to place 3 lines out of 5 in the correct order...

Has anyone got this to work on an R4i yet? I got up to the character select, made my character and then it crashes.
 
The graphics for the menus are stored within RESOURCE.NXARC, you can see them by opening the file in a tile editor and using GBA 8bpp. The ideal way to go about editing these would be to program a tool that extracts the files and then re-inserts them when finished with editing.

I'm still looking for the text.

I strongly believe that the text is within the MODSN3 files. This is another kind of archive, however I've seen it in a ton of games so it seems to be a common format. I'm not sure if there is a pre-existing tool for these files because of that. What encoding should I be using, though? I've never looked at a Korean game before, always Japanese. I'm using EUC-KR right now, but it seems not all of the text is showing properly. Either I am using the wrong encoding or it will need a table built.
