I'm making a list of things i need, and i need to ask a few questions,

1. How many buttons do i need to play most MAME games?
2. Is there anything else you would recommend me buying?

Here's my list so far of what i need:

  1. Joystick: http://www.adafruit.com/products/480
  2. 4 Buttons for actions: http://www.adafruit.com/products/471

  3. 2 Red LED buttons for start/ select buttons: http://www.adafruit.com/products/1192
4. Wood ( Or a recycled Table)

5. Raspberry Pi Breadboard (for the connecting of pins)

6. Button Wiring: http://www.adafruit.com/products/1152

7. Joystick Wiring: http://www.adafruit.com/products/793

8. Electrical and Duct Tape

9. TV/ Monitor (Preferably HD , size depends on what table we use)

10. Extension Cord

11. Power Strip

Any ideas would be great! Thank you!

What kinds of games are you planning on playing? You may also want to throw a steering wheel into that list, maybe something you could wheel up to it and plug in when you want to use it?

I have USB ports on the side, so if i can find a USB steering weel that'd work, mostly MAME games and NES/SNES

I made mine with an old PC. all the wires are linked to a keyboard that I had. Works well up to PS2 but PS2 games are more fun with joystics.
took my parts from : http://www.multicade.ca/
I use maximus arcade for the frontend & of course emulators.

That looks awesome :P
I was going to ask if you were considering making it an arcade cabinet style, because then you could just use a CRT, but as you'd like it like that, what will you use for a screen?

EDIT: Ensure it has net access, and SSH (because who doesn't want SSH?) and, if your budget can afford it, a small monitor connected to the HDMI section of a Pi, routing it to a small monitor and a wireless mouse/keyboard.

Ah. Also, please look what I added onto it :P

IMO, a CRT would look more authentic but it's your decision

Using emulation station it should be able to browse the web, send emails, etc.

Interesting! How did you wire the joysticks and buttons to a keyboard? I'd actually be interested in doing something like that in the distant future
