I'm trying to make a skin, but whenever I run makeskin_default.bat I get and error with a bunch of question marks. At first I thought maybe the bit depth I used on the .bmp's was incorrect, but through trial and error I've determined that it's not just the .bmp's but also the .png's causing problems. Not every image is a problem (I've tried mixing in some of the ones I've created with the original defaults and had success), but I haven't narrowed it down to any specific files. Any suggestions on what the problem is or how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.

just tried the hacked version on my m3 and no success, same fat error on boot, tried on both a 1gb kingston and a 4gb sandisk so cant be a high cap card issue.

ho hum no point in doing much to troubleshoot, i can wait a short while til official is out.

Works just as it's supposed for me..I'm checking it right now, they really made a great work..
Although, I find it funny to see how it's made of many smaller parts compiled in one..Games loader really stands out from the whole concept, will fix that with skinning!!

Hacked M3 Sakura

*insert usual disclaimer* i am not responsible for whatever happens if you use this

somebody make me a translation now

iamnobody care to enlighten me how to hack the Sakura firmware? I kinda figured it`s just a matter of messing around with the firmware to make it accept a english hardware id since the original firmware complains `hardware id different from software id` but how have no clue how I would be able to do that. It probably involes hex editing (which I am quite bad at), but then I would not know which string to look for and what it should be changed to...

You see I have and English M3DS Real, am of Dutch origin, and am studying Japanese, therefore I would like to continue using the Japanese firmware even when they release an English one.... Besides that they came with v1.11 today, it would be nice if I could hack future firmware updates without having to ask someone to hack it for me every time. I know from the M3G6 Real firmware they sometimes update it once a week....

Then, again, if you don`t want to let me in on the secret I totally understand... but it would help me so much...

it's not that simple to explain. it involves using a hex editor and a disassembler. look for reverse engineering tutorials on the internet. you can start by learning how to hack pc programs, then learn hacking ds programs

Thx for the info, altough I guess I`m a bit lazy so I don`t know if I ever get into reverse engineering enough to pull it off...
Even if I do it might take me months I guess sounds complicated. I suppose you need a course in programming or something to understand it right?

I had a disassembly tool for nds files but in this case I guess it`s the "g6dsload.jp" or "g6dsload.eng" file I want to edit, since there used to be a tool for firmware region patching, but it only works until M3G6 firmware 2.51... It can be found here if anyone is interested http://neosource.1emu.net/forums/index.php...45.0;attach=932 it patches the g6dsload.jp to a working g6dsload.eng while sustaining Jap language. But again, beware, it only works till M3G6 Firmware 2.51

Wouldn`t it be possible to write such an app for M3Sakura?

Anyway I`ll try looking into reverse engineering ...

P.S. Could you at least tell me which file to look at?

i haven't looked at the tool but it looks like it only changes the xor of the header. m3 sakura has further checks. the files that need changing are g6dsload.jp, startnds.ext, and startgba.ext

Why oh why am I bad at mathematics, which makes it oh so difficult to understand programming and stuff...

Wonder if this giude could get me anywhere... it includes disassembler and hex editing but probably in the wrong way...
http://toenailed.game-hackers.com/tutorial/trainer.htm

Guess I`ll either have to learn reverse engineering (Which is perhaps nearly impossible for me), get a Japanese M3 DS Real (Which is hard, if not impossible) or accept the fact I have to stick to the English firmware... (Still sucks) Or wait for kind people like you to fix it but the problem with that is I`ll still be very dependant, and the moment you dissappear or don`t want to do it anymore I`ll have a probem...

Life is so friggin` complicated...

Makes me wonder they did implement the region protection on the M3DS in the first place (it`s a backup solution after all...)

Anyway thank you for your time and replies, I guess I`ll keep praying for a prog or something.... I find hex editing alot of trouble, and I never disassembled or programmed before. I so wish I had more knowhow at times like this... I only know Network/System management and Service Desk...

I think you might probably find it a lot easier to make a Japanese skin for the English firmware rather than hacking the Japanese firmware every time it comes out. Just my two pence.

Even easier than making a Japanese skin would be to just download both the Japanese firmware and the English one when it comes out, then replace the English skin with the one from the Japanese firmware

You know if that`s possible it might be a great idea... (Just figured Sakura was released a few hours ago... I`m kinda new to the Sakura file/skin system) With the regular M3G6 firmware the skin had nothing to do with the language...

Altough I guess a few things would be left untranslated.... (like translate the internal text as well > system messages)
But if that`s all I guess I can live with it.

I believe most of the system messages even in the Japanese version are in English anyway (just look at the running texts when Sakura boots up).
