i want 60fps on this game but for some reason my gpu nor cpu is 100%. is there a way to fix
i have tryed goind in nvidia drivers and setting high performance, but nothing changed
running this on laptop 920mx i3 5005U cpu.
some times gpu drops to 40% without losing a single frame.

How much FPS are you getting? PS: 42 fps, yeah I am blind.
Is this game vsync capped?
Your GPU usage is far from low, if it is being capped to "refresh rate of your monitor"/2 due to vsync, perhaps it your GPU is not strong enough to pull double the FPS and get to the next vsync cap.

yes its vsynced but turning off vsync gives additional 2-3fps
gpu usage is far from low but in some areas it gets to about 40-60%
also changing graphics settings dosent help much either

Yeah try turning off or on Vsync and check if that fixes the FPS, hopefully you didn't change the Vsync settings on the Nvidia Control Panel, if you did check those too and set it to global before testing.
Btw what game is that?

Did you try bumping up the graphic settings?

The darkness 2
yes my vsync settings are global
graphics settings are max

Laptop is plugged in, yeah? And no power-saving modes are on? That GPU is pretty low-end, unfortunately, so you may not even get much performance out of it

its pluged in and its on balanced mode
How long have you had the thing? Download a benchmark program and run it, compare your scores to other people who have the same or similar hardware. That'll tell us if you're having an actual issue, or if the GPU is just not powerful enough

change to high performance mode- its the third one thats not visible in the tiny window. also change the cooling policy to active and max all the settings in high performance mode that helped me

one thing still dosent make sence to me, if i were to play a higher end game, such as mkx it uses all 100%

It looks like it is vsynching, and it is just not powerful enough to pull the extra frames, but as it is stopped midway by vsync it goes down to 70% usage.

still stays at 40 fps

even when i set all settings down and turn off vsync it still stays at 40-45

40-45? It sounds like it's just not powerful enough to run even higher, I'm not sure about the usage though. Just play on lower settings if that increases the fps.

Have you tried modifying the game profile on the gpu driver?

That thread is from 2012, so I doubt it would be relevant, but still...
id didnt work

thats the thing it dosent increase fps at all

also my laptop far surpasses the recomended requirements
  • OS: Windows XP/Vista/7
  • Processor: 2.4 GHz Quad Core processor
  • Memory: 2GB RAM
  • Hard Disk Space: 10GB
  • Video Card: 512+ MB NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX
  • Sound: DirectX Compatible
  • Additional: Requires installation of Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable, DirectX and nVidia PhysX version 9.11.1107 (included with download)

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

i think i found a bottleneck, its my cpu which is dual core 2ghz. but if even if it does not meet the minimum requirement wouldnt it go up to 100% ?

It would probably only go up to 100% if it used all the cores.
Older games aren't optimized for multiple cores.
Also, that is an U-series CPU, it will throttle to stay below the TDP. The overlay may be counting the turbo boost clock as 100% usage, but it's clocking down so it never reaches the max.
