What's different when using the NTR method? Is the savegame usable with any cartridge of Super Smash Bros. then?

yep your only hope is someone who has a n3DS with 9.2 or lower and a copy of cubic ninja to backup the save in a decrypted format, then if you ever need to restore it unless new tools appear you will need someone with the exact same setup to restore the save to a different retail cart

powersaves, save dongles etc are pretty much useless as they can only restore to the original cart the save was dumped from

....unless your plan is to get the same copy back sometime down the line

Okay. So, to be perfectly clear: To having a chance using my savegame on another cartridge someday, I need a decrypted save, which is only possible by using NTR (or maybe the Gateway card), right? I just want to edit my first post in this thread so that people know.

just NTR, even gateway can't do it :P

EDIT....actually brainwave, gateway/cfw can, if the user installs the legit copy of SSB they could then use the save data transfer too to move your save from the cart to the eshop version, then use SDF to decrypt the save

I thought you just wanted to backup your save before loaning your game to your mate. Seems like a save dongle - far from being "useless" - is in fact ideal for that purpose. Especially since you don't have an exploitable 3DS anyway.

You never know. Maybe we won't see each other much in the future, maybe he'll lose it. I don't even really want to share the same cartridge with him or something, the cartridge would be for him only.

But I already explained before: the postage to send the game to someone and back is only 3€, an entire new cartridge would cost me 36€. Hell, maybe I'll never even play the 3DS version again (since I'm having so much fun with the Wii U version), then an entire new cartridge would be even more wasteful.

I just thought someone could do me the favor, that is all.

I know the pricing of electronics nowadays isn't "how much it actually costs" but "how much we can get away with", but putting up a poll is just cynical.
