I ran some kind of linux that you could install to the hard drive without having to make a partition. I can't remember what it was called. It's one of the Live cd distros with an option to install on an XFAT partitioned drive.

w00t I've not touched this thread in a while but to update everyone:

Basically I picked up a couple of xbox's cheap to mess about with. I've just softmodded one with evox dash and sucessfully installed xebian onto it!

However me not knowing anything about linux has run me into some problems!

1. Is there a simple gui file explorer in xebian anywhere? Like so I can browse folders open/edit/copy files easily etc...

2. What's the best newsreader for linux? Anything like Grabit exist? The plan is to install that and then I can leave my xbox on overnight instead of my PC, so if there's anything else I need to consider then please mention it! I've not hooked my xbox upto my router yet so I expect more problems in the near future!

I dont know about xebian but try launching nautilus through a terminal.

And if you can get Wine on the box, you can just install Grabit.

I should really get an extra hard drive or two and try to get this working.

EDIT: I guess I'm assuming that you have a keyboard hooked up to the Xbox as I have no idea if you can actually "type" with just the controller.
