Get a bunch of emulators for classics.

I heard emulators aren't PC games...

Lets have a look what I have...
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Fable: The lost chapters
Dungeon Keeper 2
Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst
Sims 2 (?)
World Of Goo

Probably my favorite PC games of all time.

He'll have problems with Oblivion. His laptop looks a bit weaker than mine (2.0GHz, 8500m) which was struggling with it, but Dean pointed out Morrowind which should work fine.

He should be able to run UT2/2.5 games pretty nicely though, I had SWAT 4 and Killing Floor running on mine without problems.

Flatout2 and any of the older Need for speed (I recommend Most Wanted) or Prince of Persia games.
Also, Star Wars republic commando Sorry, just remembered that it's a laptop, and laptops and FPS games don't go together.

Oh yeah, forgot that Oblivion was such a heavy game...
Take Morrowind then, also enjoyable.

He didn't specifically ask for pc games.

This should help you in your search.

Make sure to get the expansions for morrowind.
Also the strongbad games on pc are good.

You know what he meant, I hate it when people go for the easy option and say get emulators.

Re Oblivion...... http://www.oldblivion.com/

OS: I would be inclined to stick another partition on there and get a copy of XP and tune it as hard as you can, you can do it for Vista but it is a pain and will render the system less usable for day to day stuff. nLite is a good tool for this job but you could also try something like tinyXP.

As for games there are several notable exceptions but I would say many games are build with slightly older hardware in mind not to mention many games have mods and in depth user settings (as in edit registry, ini, startup commands and so on) as well as things similar to oldblivion above.

First of all, thank you guys/girls
bow.gif

You are so cool with all the suggestions!!!

I'm more searching for games "on the fly" or in class
I'm not a hardcore gamer and I have a pc that plays games better
So if I really want a game meant to be played much (oblivion) I can play it
but games on the fly I mean shorter games
examples on my laptop:
ut and ut2004 (quick games)
world of goo (can do 1 level at a time in class if I want, in pauses ofcourse)
GTA2, vice city, san andreas (no missions just freeroam if I want to)
And ofcourse all command and conquer games except red alert 3 (saving in skirmisk)

So prefably a game that can easaly save in between or can be played without missions
Sorry I am so critical
I really do like your suggestions and I am checking them all out

p.s. Sorry for the bad english, but I'm dutch.

Check out Torchlight it's kinda like Diablo, and was made to be able to run on Netbooks so you should have no problem. And it autosaves every time you exit the game.
You can also try Bookworm/Adventure/Adventure 2 and a good GBA emulator like Visualboy Advance M.

See also: Fate and Fate 2.

Mount and Blade - you will not regret this. AMAZING indie game.

Warcraft III - couple this with DotA and you're golden.

POPCAP games are good for quick bursts.

if your a fan of star wars, get tie fighter and xwing, old games put still alot of fun

for first person shooters you can try Quake, Dark Forces, Doom

for simulation type games try Sims, sim city, theme park, roller coaster tycoon.

for RPGs try Baldur Gate I and II, Neverwinter nights, Fallout 1 and 2 (3 prob be too slow)

some of these games may have trouble in vista

Braid! It is not a very old game but it is a sidescroller so it shouldn`t be very demanding.

I have to say that game is simply amazing. I can`t tell you why because one has to experience it for oneself!!!

With World of Goo (which I also recommend!!!) the best indy game I have ever played!

I'd recommend Civ IV and the expansions, either that the newer Colonization. Not real time, so doesn't matter if you leave it running or paused and you can save quite often.
