How about this?

1. Get a PS2 to Wii controller adapter
2. Get a Gamecube to PS2 Adapter

Cube-->Ps2-->Wii-->Wii U
there are no words for how simultaneously genius and ridiculous this is XD

Agreed and this could serve to extend corded GameCube controllers. Has anyone tried this before? Someone should post a YouTube video.

And a few days ago you were accusing me of trolling! :P
I think that, if WiiU pro controller works with Gamecube games, it will perfectly substitute Gamecube controller!
And let's be honest, WiiU pro controller is much better than Gamecube controller! :D
The Wii U won't be backwards compatible with gamecube they said, though... heck, the Wii "family edition" isn't even backwards compatible. So unless either Nintendo releases GCN virtual console games for Wii U, or someone develops a 3rd party adapter (like the wavebird receiver) to use the Upro controller on gamecubes and older Wiis, the upro controller won't be used for GCN games. :-(

Nintendo said awhile ago that gcn games will be available on the Wii U virtual console.

Really? When? Do you have a link? If so, that's awesome!

Though I'd still be pissed that they're dropping compatibility just to say "here you go, you get to pay for these games ALL OVER AGAIN!!" :hateit:

It was said sometime last year after they first introduced the Wii U, don't remember where but I'll try and find the link, I very distinctly remember reading about it.

There's no looking down at the controller, ever. -and you never need to.
You're one of those people who never learned to type properly, aren't you?
Because I've never had any issues with controller layouts and I own an N64, SNES, Dreamcast, PS3, PS2, NES clone, a couple PCs with varying sized keyboards, a PSP, a phat DS, a 3DS, a Game and Watch, 3 Gameboy Colors, a phat GBA, a Wii, a Sega Genesis, a Gamegear, and probably a couple others. I see literally no reason why anyone would ever choose to stick with that specific controller over the perfectly stylin' looking Pro Controller. Hell, the gamecube'd probably be my LAST choice if I had to pick a controller to base every other controller off of.

I'd go with the motherfuckin' Dreamcast controller. That thing was amazing.

dreamcast controller had a major flaw by putting the cord at the bottom. And of course it now would need another analogue stock and 2 more triggers. But I did freaking love the feel of that controller, in terms of feel, that and the gamecube controllers werethe best hands down.

It also had the grips at a terribly uncomfortable angle. My wrists would start feeling strained after just 10 mins or so. Better than an N64 controller where in analog mode my wrists would start hurting after about a minute, but still awful in general.

What?!
Damn Nintendo! Why don't they make GC support on WiiU?!
Wii had a pretty good support to GC, I don't see why they did that?

I was thinking about getting WiiU for GC, Wii and WiiU games, but now I'm not quite sure if I'll ever get this!
I understand when they took out the GBA support with DSi, they needed to reduce space, but now, why?!

I hope they release the GC successful games on WiiU network, because it would be even more disappointing if they don't!
Nintendo consoles have traditionally only been backwards comparable by one generation the only exception is the gameboy advance which played gameboy color and regular gameboy games

Again, gcn games will be on the vc: http://digitaltrends.com/gaming/wii-u-virtual-console-will-have-gamecube-games-says-nintendo/ there would be a market for some sort of gcn controller for the Wii U

Never said it was true backwards compatability, but gcn games will be playable on the Wii U which really does show that GCN controllers for the system in some capacity are warranted.

Thanks... I'm not sure how much I trust this source, though. She casually mentions "a number of games playable on the gamecube can be downloaded as WiiWare," briefly, but that's it. The article is also a year old, and features such outdated information as only one Upad being usable with the Wii U. That coupled with the fact that Nintendo hasn't said anything else about Gamecube virtual console, and it leave me still rather skeptical. I hope it's true, though, and I hope that by "a number of games", they don't mean like the way "a number" of N64 games were available on WiiWare (hint: that's less than 25 games). :P

Well to be fair, the lady that said that is fairly high up in Nintendo's marketing department

I bet she wasn't supposed to have said what she said in that article. They could be saving the announcement for later

It could be 5 gcn games, it could be the whole library, the point is, gcn games will be playable on the system, thats my only point here. As it is, I really want to get one of those n64 to Wii controller adapters for the few n64 games on the Wii (and for Wii 64 too). As for the rest of your concern, Nintendo rarely announces a feature and then doesn't deliver (only exception that comes to mind is a DVD playing Wii, of course homebrew made this happen eventually anyway though). In fact, as you pointed out, things from that article have only improved, 2 gamepads and the ability to use external USB hard drives for storage have since been announced.

That makes me feel a bit better. :)

After posting this I looked up Gamecube to Ps2 controller adapters and found no such thing. I guess my dream of finding the most roundabout way is shattered.

Yeah the only thing I could find was a controller extended made by this company called game elements. It's actually a really cool extender as it worked for gamecube, ps2, and original xbox. I actually found a couple of them at my local dollar store 4 years ago. They're made in a way that makes it seem like you might be able to use each systems controller on each other system, but such is not the case. I tested it out again just to make sure and it definitely will not work.

Concept 4: Use the Gamecube controller with a Gamecube console?

There are many of us who still think that the GameCube controller is the optimal gamepad for classic style gaming. Sure, it does not have clickable analog sticks but I love the fact that I never have to look down to know which button is which. It's perfection!

So is the SNES pad, and Xbox 360 controller.

I think what he's getting at is that you don't really have to memorize the button placement or where your fingers are at all... Especially if you're someone who plays both XBox and Nintendo systems (me, probably you, and a bunch of other people), it gets confusing at times and (especially when playing XBox) I get my X and Y mixed up all the time.

For the Gamecube, it's nearly impossible to get mixed up... You have a large "main" button in the middle (A), you have a smaller secondary button towards the bottom (B), and two additional buttons (X and Y) of different shape and angle at the top and right of the "main" button. Plus, unlike the SNES/XBox layout, you don't have to worry about stretching to reach a button on the opposite side of the "cross" layout, because all the buttons are snugly fit around the A button.

Idk, that's just how it feels to me. I know it doesn't feel that way for everyone.
