Sega has dubbed today, February 4, Puyo Puyo day. It's a pun.

To commemorate the big day, Sega made all sorts of Puyo Puyo related announcements. Most notable is the announcement of a Wii Virtual Console Arcade release for the classic 1992 Puyo Puyo arcade game.

The big deal with this particular Virtual Console release is that it will support Wi-Fi competitive play. Players will be able to battle one-another in online matches. As Inside Games notes, this is the first Virtual Console game to have Wi-Fi support.

The VCA version of Puyo Puyo will be released this Spring, priced 800 Wii Points.

The other Puyo Puyo announcements for the day included a character illustration contest, to be held at the Nico Nico Seiga image sharing site, and an original goods drawing.[/p]

Seems like a cool feature that should be implemented in many other Virtual Console games.

I'd like to see this if Pokemon Stadium ever gets released (it may have been already, I really don't care).

It would be nice. After all, Pokemon Stadium > Pokemon Battle Revolution.

I thought that virtual console games were just run through emulators

And I'm pretty sure no console had wifi support in 1992...so how would they go about editing genesis code to go online

Oh, you...

It will most likely be synchronized emulation kinda like netplay for the PC N64 emulator.

Why Puyo Puyo 1?

It sucks, Puyo Puyo 2 is a million times better.

Is it really that bad or just sucky compared to 2? Never heard of the game but it looks like Dr Mario...

A pun in Japanese? What would the pun be?
Puyo -> Tsu Yon -> 2-4

The Japanese language concept of a pun a little more liberal than the English language one?

Rental pokémons are just horrible. Without linking with GB/GBC pokémon games possible, stadium is useless (except for its minigames).

they could release R/B/G/S/C for 3DS VC so you can connect to Stadium.

That + local multiplayer with the 3DS = EPIC WIN.

Wow, pretty big selling point I guess, mainly if it can do N64 games.

If it does and then it'll be nice to do some N64 games online. The original SSB, Mario Kart 64 (although I felt CTR was way better), Mario Party 1-3, etc would be nice with it.

EDIT: Why did I think this was applying to the 3DS for some reason? Omitted useless parts.

Puyo puyo 1 isn't that bad on itself. It's just that the gameplay of 2 is so much better, that you'll start hating 1

If this were to happen the VC's sales would skyrocket. And I would re-buy SSB (still have it on my N64)
