Japan gets Resident Evil VII Cloud Version for the Nintendo Switch

Resident Evil VII is getting a Nintendo Switch version, just not in the traditional sense. Titled "Resident Evil VII Cloud", players will be able to download a 45MB launcher onto their Switch, which will stream the entire game through the cloud. You'll need a constant stable internet connection to access it, and as of the initial announcement, it's only going to be available in Japan. All of Resident Evil VII and its DLC content is playable, and there's even a 15 minute free demo of the game for those curious to try it out. After that, it'll cost 2,000 Yen to rent the title for 180 days. Resident Evil VII Cloud will be available on the Japanese Switch eShop on May 24.

When I saw Biohazard 7 Cloud, I for some reason began to think "What, Cloud Strife?" I was thinking too deep. You know, because FF7... RE7... No, just me? Never mind then.

Interesting, but I hope this doesn't discourage them from actually putting it and other games on the Switch.

Also interesting, that they decided not to wait until E3. Not as hype as a physical or even digital game, but still.

would be good if they made a dumbed down version that can turn to the cloud version when online would be a ok compromise......I also wonder if this is the nail in the coffin in terms of rainway ever getting an official release on the switch

Lord that's like two terrible things in one, renting a game, and then having to stream it? Can we just have physical games that I can own forever? Why is everything going to subscription services these days, I want to own my games, they're not movies that I can watch in two hours.

Imagine Monster Hunter World Cloud.

I guarantee Japan is going to get it, and I wouldn't expect it outside. People out in the country would be SOL.

Not interested in paying money for games you don't get to keep, but this does open up the possibility of Rainway and other streaming on Switch.

Rainway and/or Steam In-Home would be pretty amazing. I never had much luck for streaming outside of home despite having 10Mbps upload, which would be perfect for 720p60, but I wouldn't play big games on the go anyway, but I'd be down to play anything in handheld mode around the house. I would totally vouch for Steam In-Home to have a Switch version. It's probably the best performing of all the streaming software, even though it's restricted to local LAN.

The future is gaming stream devices. Hardware you can sell on the cheap and have PC like quality graphics. These will sell like hotcakes.
Internet technology will improve and get faster making connection speed a non issue. Its a matter of time for technology to improve to make this useable.
Then there will be a split between people that like physical copies and people that prefer streaming.

This would be great for an online multiplayer game like Monster Hunter but for a single player game? No thanks. I'd rather just get it on PC and stream it to my tablet when I want to play on the go. At least that way, there's no 6 month limit :P

Wish they would let us play the NCAA football 14 on newer xbox, its one of the only games I love and own on disc still, that is not back compatible, bs.

@BigOnYa My dad recently bought a spare Series X off of me, got game pass, and saw Madden '24 on Game Pass, decided to try it out.

...He was a bit taken aback by the 60GB download size. Poor guy's still living in the 90s!

@K3Nv2 He was looking into consoles for his house anyway (for my younger siblings and himself) and I had a spare XSX and Switch I ended up selling him at pretty steep cuts. I would just give them to him, but I did buy them with the intent to sell them... and college is super expensive.
