Twisted Metal creator Dave Jaffe is nothing if not loquacious, offering up tons of intriguing details regarding his new PS3 reboot of the Twisted Metal series and the history of the franchise in general at his Comic-Con presentation.

Here are some of the highlights:

- Jaffe says the game will mark a return of the live-action cutscenes of the original Twisted Metal. He says the team examined a number of options for the cinematics, but felt that many other directions, like comic-influenced cutscenes (Infamous) or CG cutscenes (Blizzard) had been perfected by other developers. He even showed off some props used in the filming of the live action scenes

- The single-player campaign can be played with Sweet Tooth, Dollface, or Mr. Grimm. Each character will have three different endings, for a total of nine end custscenes

- The game will NOT feature any 3D display or PlayStation Move control capabilities

- Multiplayer will feature two and four-player split screen, as well as online splitscreen

- He's added a non-playable gunner character to each vehicle, as well as a host of new special weapons. The sniper weapons are the first time in series history that Twisted Metal has had one-hit kills. Jaffe also suggested that, while the gunner character will not be playable out of the box, that is something the team could add through DLC at a later date

- With regards to DLC, Jaffe said you will get your money's worth. Every DLC pack will include things like new characters and new features, not just simple skins or other non-essential items

- The game will be rated T for Teen. Jaffe pointed out that the M-rated Twisted Metal: Black was the worst-selling in series history. He said he was willing to sacrifice an M rating in order to ensure the biggest community of online players possible

- Many of the game's storylines are inspired by Jaffe's real life experiences. For example, the saga of Dollface is partly inspired by his recent divorce and the Mr. Grimm saga speaks to Jaffe's warm memories of his father

- Hollywood superproducer Avi Arad (Iron Man, X-Men, Spider-Man series) has purchased the movie rights to Twisted Metal. In addition to a possible blockbuster, Jaffe also wants to produce a budget, '80s slasher inspired Sweet Tooth movie to be released on PlayStation Network

Only 3 campaign characters? That kind of sucks.
But it looks like I need to get a PS3 as soon as possible. Twisted Metal is my haven.
Pretty much my exact thinking. I was like "OMG Twisted Metal is coming back!?" then I was like "Oh, only 3 campaign characters?" Kinda awkward, just shows they're hoping the DLC pulls through. At least there's Sweet Tooth and Mr. Grimm.
