and the ps2, the weakest one of the trio won that gen, its not about hardware but about the quality of the library.

also saying that wii u has no gaems is useless right now as their competition doesnt even have hardware out

TBH I think the unreleased consoles with unreleased games already have much more promising futures than the Wii U.

If they put their franchises on other hardware, then who would buy their hardware to play games. Nintendo wants to sell its own hardware and their franchises are the key. There's no fee from their own software selling so 100% profit and royalties from third parties.

Where is my damn Halo on my cellphone?

Here

I very much like CEO Iwata and believe he is making the right decisions at every turn. May he be around to make them for many years to come!

And they have ads for Nintendo games on Cartoon Network all the time, man.

thats right.

however, i do agree that marketing is somewhat lagging. i mean, they do make ads, but they're often kinda dumb. like, i really find those adds with a single woman playing a game alone while constantly talking to herself in a calm voice and sometimes making cutesy noises towards the console kinda... embarrassing to watch.
they do in fact make playing good games seem somewhat boring

I am not seeing how it would be a short term fix as far as consoles go.

what he meant by that is, that if you only look for short term gain, selling off your bestselling gaming icons would seem like a good move. but what then?

its the same way firing half your staff to save money to make a company look like its doing wonderful business, but then, eventually you realizethat you kinda do need your staff to be productive and two or three years later, your company crumbles.

how many times do I have to say this:
NEVER IN THE HISTORY OF VIDEO GAMES HAS THE STRONGEST SYSTEM WON!

That being said, of course nintendo is best on nintendo systems because they design the system for THEIR NEEDS. To think that they could do that high quality games on any other system is silly. what do you think works better: developing a game for a system specifically developed to your specifications OR developing a game for a system you have to learn what it can do first?

I suppose all 3rd party launch games ever are not proof enough for you stoneheads though...

Heh

On the first count is the the whole correlation-causation fallacy rearing its head? Similarly the power gap and design philosophies have not varied that much before so even if it is causation then would it still apply?

"Their needs"
Has not modern programming and hardware design if you are after the custom controller stuff kind of negated the need for application specific hardware design? I absolutely agree getting platforming a la NES Mario on a PC of the time would have been a nightmare. Today it is all so much high level programming (and though I love hardware level programming as much as anybody that is very much for the better). On learning the system though it seems even the DS had a whole load of it abstracted away from low level programming to function calls and basic programming.
To spin it further though
On Mario Kart
Ignoring the many problems with the franchise from a game design/theory perspective there are many "clones"/want to be fun kart racing games on other systems. I see no technical reason why it could be not reskinned and variable adjusted to cope.
Smash bros
There are loads of these sorts of games in Japan on various systems.
Mario 3d and 2d
It is going to be the same pattern again and again I think.

All they have to do is produce the following spot. Usually I charge for ideas like that...

"20 reasons to buy the Wii U, the NEW CONSOLE from Nintendo and successor to the Wii:

List the 20 best games

More reasons to enjoy your new Wii U console:

Backwards compatible with Wii Software and accessories
New and improved online shop
even more games digitally
Innovative new ways to play games

Nintendo Wii U
The new console from Nintendo!"

and that's that...

edit: also for the post above:
Best arguments I heard so far. Yet fact is people who actually care about tech and hardware specs are not as common as many here might think. As for the rest, nintendo is slow in adapting so adapting to new development interface would kill them. Furthermore, I think it's GOOD they do their own thing as I am NOT HAPPY with the direction the industry is heading at all...

Goddammit, how is this shit news!? This is probably the 5th time this summer Iwata has made a statement like this, its blatantly obvious and only makes people talk about the even MORE obvious shit Nintendo SHOULD do that we all know they wont. END THE FUCKING CYCLE.

While I see your point, the main problem with the WiiU is that there aren't 20 games that would want the average person to buy the console. While many of the games that the WiiU has received so far have received praise, if you take away the multiplats (aka. "I own a PS3/360, which already has that game too"), you'll end up with only a few games. I do understand that the WiiU is considered next gen, but it lacks a lot in terms of games. It's got quite a few cool features, but still needs something that makes people wow. Just like the Wii did.

ps. How do people forget that Sony and Microsoft are making games for Android and Windows Phone? Sony has even made handheld/smartphone hybrids such as the Xperia Play. Nintendo could do just the same if they wanted: make some kind of Mario game for another platform, but keep making stuff for their own platform too. Especially if they don't have a device in the same range (smartphone, PC, etc. Not counting smartphones as handhelds or PCs as gaming consoles here).

But he's right.

That matters little as it is the developers, people that are defined by their ability to adapt to new platforms (and high level programming is lessening even that barrier), that get to be the ones to deal with it and not the end user.
New dev interface. They mix it up enough of the time and pull from enough common sources that it should not be that bad. Also a programmer that locked to an IDE....

"Their own thing". Going back to the what if games were DVDs thing I see no great problem with every want to be film maker can do what they like and burn it off to DVD in the end. Indeed a lot of this has already been sorted for programming as well with the likes of the PC, very high level programming, web programming and more.

Wait, so multiplats dont count now? But then you tell me the wiiu is bad because it has no 3rd party multiplats?
Hypocrisy everywhere. You peoply truly deserve to be treated like shit by the game companies...

edit: also, still doesnt change the fact that the average customer doesnt give a shit about graphics and tech. otherwise minecraft wouldnt sell, nobody would play slender or amnesia and people wouldnt download all those retro games and indie games with retro graphics...

Because that's what he was saying. Uh huh. Keep misconstruing that point all you want, bro.

te multiplat part was meant for you-.-
the edit part was for him...

learn how tor ead and interpret...

If you're so angry that you can't even keep your spelling together, you might want to take a second and calm down.

You're ignoring what people are saying just to find something to be outraged about, and it just isn't helping your case at all. Take a breather if you have to and come back when you're ready for a discussion.

also if you would have taken the time to actually read my introduction in the rigth thread instead of trying to be smart you would know that i dont ever get angry simple because i dont give a shit.

edit: did anyone correct this or did i write it correctly and you intentionally wrote it wrong? because i cant find a fault in my spelling and i did not edit it yet?

There's no need to be upset.

Hum... The Wii U is lacking games sure, but seriously, there's no need to be so serious. =O

Games are meant to be fun, game systems are meant to provide fun, stressing about opinions and things is an insult to them, you think your Wii U would be happy if you be raged when people say bad about it? I'm sure she'll get sad, just the same way that many Vita's used to get sad in the past. ='(

EzekielRage you usually seem somewhat more composed/logical in these sorts of threads, looking at the weather it has been a somewhat hot day but I am not sure what gives otherwise.

The way it breaks down

The Wii U
More expensive than the competition.
Hardware/control wise not out and out better than the alternatives.
Suspect online capabilities.
Not much in the way of exclusives worth a damn.
Third parties not enough or enough better to distract from the PS360 allowing basically the same thing but cheaper, with the added bonus of all your friends and the majority of the community probably having already bought into the PS360 world.
Backwards compatibility... yay but the Wii is cheap as you like right now.

Potential. Sure as everything does and the previously discussed high level programming stuff means if they get someone with a clue about this sort of thing they could even do well.
Positives. Nintendo has been seen to make some desirable games, probably not enough to sustain a modern console in the consumer's eyes though but enough to warrant calls to go multiplatform.
Likelihood of potential being anywhere close to fulfilled. No doubt many will be picking one up later in life but few are predicting a rush on them in the near future.
The above but before the PSBone wanders in and cleans up. Not really.
