I know that the ipod touch and iphone are able to use an app to control their itunes wirelessly. Would it be possible for someone to make a homebrew app to do this? the software is built into itunes 8 to allow a controller, but someone would have to figure out how to let the ds connect. Just an idea...

You should try DS2Key.
http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=120342&hl=ds2key

I don't know exactly how iTunes works, but if you can control things with the keyboard, you can map those keys to the DS buttons. ie. if iTunes uses spacebar to play/pause, you could map that key to A at the DS.

Like I said, I don't know how iTunes work, but you should try it and see if it could work.

BTW, DS2Key uses Wi-Fi

Thanks, I was thinking for more of an itunes specific app though that will allow me to see what song is playing etc. I know it would use wifi, that is how the ipod touch app connects to itunes. There is an option in itunes that says "look for itunes remote." I was thinking if someone could design a ds homebrew app that would mirror the ipod touch/iphone app and allow it to do the same functions.

If the iTunes controll uses a network interface for it, then yes, its entirely possible.

If it doesnt, you may have to code a PC server for the DS to connect to. Or yes you could try mapping keys in DS2Key

windows. I've seen an app called that controls winamp and worked pretty well. I've tried win2ds, again a more itunes specific app would be more helpful. I'm pretty sure a network interface is coded into itunes for the controller, not entirely sure though.

I just watched a vid on how the official itunes controller app works, I don't know if a homebrew app would connect. You have to enter in a pass code and stuff to connect. The homebrew app would have to somehow emulate the ipod touch exactly. Probably not possible.

Um, I could probably try make an app that sits on your computer, and your DS connects to that.
And then through that little program it can control iTunes.
Or is that not what you wanted?

I guess that would be cool, but I'm not sure if the functionality would be the same. The contoller app allows you to actually acess your itunes library from the ipod touch/iphone, and actually select the song you want playing, adjust volume, ect. It seems like it would be quite an undertaking, if it's something you would think would be useful for others go ahead! Thanks for the help

Yeah, I'll get back to you on how it goes.
I'm sorry, but it will look crap because when it comes to graphics I suck with that.
But all I'm doing it for is an example on how you would go about doing it.

UPDATE:
Sorry, I tried but it proved more difficult then I thought.
Oh, and I think what you want (if anyone else wants to do it) is DACP.
Just have a look at this application for the Android phone: http://dacp.jsharkey.org/

are you using haxchi, tiramisu or aroma?
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    yeah
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
no, I'm asking which one of them you are using
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    aroma
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
in that case, there is no such thing as homebrew launcher for aroma
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
you have to launch your homebrews directly from the wii u menu
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
there is a plugin that display them on the wii u menu, pretty sure it is enabled by default
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    so like it doesnt exist
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    yeah
    ?
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
it doesn't exist, at least not for aroma
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    ohhhhh
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
on tiramisu you can access it by opening mii maker
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    okay
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
I don't have a wii u anymore to test it myself, but if homebrews are not visible on the wii u menu I think you can press L + R + minus to open the plugin menu, there should be an option called "homebrews on wii u menu" or something similar
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    nope
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
    it is L+dpad down+ select
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
but homebrew is appearing in the home menu btw
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
    yes, now I remember it
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
then it is working, I also don't like that they did this but it is the only option you have if you are using aroma
  • crafthp434 @ crafthp434:
i just didint know the homebrew launcher didint exist in aroma
