I have been browsing a site that is not able to be mentioned but one of the highest ranked members has just delivered this nice piece of news. SSBB works on PAL.

This is what he had to say and it should clear up any questions about the layer break as well.

"Open IMGBURN, select to write iso to DVD, select DVD9, click in TOOLS, SETTINGS->Write->Layer Break->User specified and type 2084960. Burn the DVD

use lastest version of brickblocker: http://wbb.rockman18.com/?page=home&ln=en"

have u noticed how BAD the english voices are? i think im going to stick with the japanese version... why bother getting the same game again?
there are barely any texts too

do we still need to do the 15% update trick to remove double channels?

Yeah I'd liked to know that too. Edgedancer posted about running it through brickblocker, so possibly the people who did the 15% trick before don't have to do it again.

Here goes hoping.

Or you could wait for some clever sod to replace the English voices with Japanese using the Truchasigner tool .

No offense, but i read someone who tested it without using brickblocker, dont know if its true, although i do know brickblocker and regionfrii are way over-used, because for half of the NTSC game its recommended to use, which i didnt and the games still worked fine, the only games i've used brickblocker on so far are super paper mario and Mario Galaxy which were Both NTSC

Can you read the trophies, challenges, etc.? I was also wondering if the JPN random matches worked outside of Japan now...

Just to clarify: do we have to have to use the guide above to avoid dual channels, Or will running the ISO through brickblocker be enough?

Sorry, just needed to be sure.

Oh, and to save me making a separate topic: What's the latest PAL firmware? I'm currently using version 3.1E, and would like to know if it would be safe to update for a Wiikey (1.9g) owner.

Thanks.

The new firmware won't do you any harm. If you burn a brickblocked version, you'll need to burn another unmodified version as well, and then do the 15% trick. However, if you burn an ISO with the update modified, you will only need to burn one disc and it'll work right away.

I'm curious about the need to specify a layer break, I didn't have to do this previously with the Caravan DVD9 JAP release of Brawl, is there any reason why the US dump needs to have the layer break set in IMGBurn.

I was under the impression that IMGBurn worked it out automatically for you, and I think it was only specifically some modchips that required this to be set or the game had issues.

For reference I am using a Wiikey with v1.9g, can anyone confirm it works without setting the layer break?

No, I just don't believe it needs to be set for the game to work properly.

I will try this tonight with the Wizard release, I don't mind wasting a DL disc.

I'm pretty sure setting the layer break was only required for specific modchips, I would still like someone to confirm this for me.

As I said, I didn't have to do this for the JAP version of SSBB to work, I'm curious as to why this is required for the NTSC-U release, unless the game was dumped differently....

noob question, but where exactly do i select DVD9?
