Alright folks, I bought myself a secondhand psp. It's a Black 2000, and has firmware 5.02 on it (No letters after it), this means that it's standard firmware is 5.02, correct? If I'm right on that, does anyone know if this is a hackable 2000? Any answers would be greatly appreciated. (I checked around before posting this, and was unable to find any information that would be helpful as I don't have the box or the serial sticker.

It does mean offical firmware is 5.02 and the only way to tell is by trying

if you have a pandora battery and a magic ms,
just try to hack it.

if the psp is hackable, it will work

if it is not hackable, nothing bad will happen

well, when the HEN is released for the TIFF hack, it will be hackable no matter what mobo you have, provided you dont upgrade the firmware (well, 5.03 is OK, but NOT 5.50). Without it, then theres a chance it could be hackable, a chance it could not. I think if you remove the battery, you can find a serial number behind it, and if it begins with HU2, i believe it is likely to be unhackable, others are likely to be hackable. Buth without trying i dont think its possible to be 100% sure. I'd probably just wait for the HEN, it should be released soon, and you wont have to get extra hardware (Pandora Battery), and worry about making an MMS. Should be much easier in the long run.

Are you sure there isn't a thin serial sticker on the same side as the headphone hack? If there isn't, then take out the battery and make sure it's under 8C

Well shit, I upgraded to 5.50 last night. Found out today that is one of the infamous v3 mobo's. Figured there'd be no harm in upgrading to 5.50, appears I was wrong. I might head to a pawn shop tomorrow and see if they'll swap me out for another psp v2. I'll just say I want a different color or something.

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated!

unlucky. how do you know its v3? did you try pandora? 'cos afaik, thats the only fool proof way

My buddy tested it with a 1000. The olde Gamestop wouldn't swap me out (not surprising). Don't feel like buying another one and trading it in (just swapping them out) for a ~130 gamestop credit I'll never use.

Alas no iso/cso loading of yet.

Well, no, no PSP, PS1 loading. Also no custom firmware, plugins, or custom XMB modifications yet either. But standardized homebrew and emulators will work just fine for the most part so far. It's a great improvement to make since "this time" everyone was really concerned whether or not the T88v3 and TA-090 motherboards were truly "unhackable" or not.

er...it doesnt have homebrew support yet due to a bug. it'll be fixed tomorrow. may be an unofficial fix or something, but davee is releasing official bugfix tomorrow.

I don't own a 3000 series, but from what I've read around, people were running homebrew on there just fine. I've read about some people playing NES on 3000 series PSP's. Odd... maybe they were bluffing. Who knows.

Good to hear that there should be a quick bug fix though.
