Homebrew Is there anywhere to get updated better working emulators on the DS?

There's a Super NES emulator that goes back to 2007. Why did everyone stop? And can someone explain the process on how to get a gambeoy advance emulator to work? THX.

People lost interest- that's all. It's something people coded for fun- once they stopped having fun, there was no real reason to continue.

The DS is very old now- the original hardware's from 2004. There's only so much people can play about with it before moving on to something else. The 3DS is a much more interesting console to work with.

If you want a GBA emulator, buy a Supercard DSTWO- TempGBA's pretty great. If you want to play GBA games well, buy a Slot-2 flashcart like the EZFlash 3-in-1, if you're on a DS Lite. Past that, you're out of luck- just buy a newer console.

A DSi XL, you mean?

That's fine. The DSTWO's compatible with the latest firmware revision. If you're that fussed about playing GBA titles, that'll be what you need.

But you'd be far better off investing in a New 3DS XL and setting it up with custom firmware. The 3DS has native GBA code execution support- it's pretty much perfect, for most titles. BlargSNES is a decent 3DS SNES emulator, as well.

It even has a native RetroArch port.

If you're not going to be civil, don't expect people to fall over themselves to give you answers.

Look into the "Supercard DSTWO". It's a flashcart with an onboard CPU significantly more powerful than the DS' hardware. It's capable of running a decent GBA emulator.

The only usable GBA emulator on the DS is "TempGBA"- and that only works with the DSTWO flashcart range. There's nothing else.

Yep. Quite an expensive one, unfortunately.

Unless you want to drop ~£30 on one, you're stuck with what you have. You can emulate everything up to the Mega Drive/Genesis comfortably without a DSTWO- the only consoles that have significant difficulty are the SNES and GBA.

...But you already have access to the DS' entire library, so who cares? And the original DS/DSi is a pretty rubbish emulation platform, anyway- the screen resolution is too low to render most systems properly. It was fun back in the day, but it's a distinctly suboptimal solution nowadays.

True, I know this is the wrong forum, but I hear the DS is a damn good emu machine.
It's not, put bluntly.

The PSP runs rings around the DS, emulation-wise- and the 3DS runs rings around them both. And modern Android devices make all of them look like antiques.

The DS' screen resolution is too low to even display NES and SNES games without downscaling them/turning them into a smeared mess. It's adequate- but nothing more.

The internal hardware's too slow for anything more impressive than the Mega Drive- and even that's pushing it - and the output of anything expecting a resolution higher than the DS' native res (256x192) requires awkward hacks to work around.

It was a good emulation machine- eight years ago. Back when we didn't have anything better.

Things have moved on a great deal since then. It's a great console for playing DS games (and GB/C games - look up "GameYob"), and that's it.

lol a portable emulation machine is what you want eh?!

ok, do you have a smartphone or tablet? nowadays, you can get, a psp, dreamcast, sega Saturn, ds, all the old systems like 2600,nes,gba,gbc etc, even ps1.

you can get retroarch, or stand alone emulators (retroarc has a crappy ui), and get either a bluetoot controller, or a moga hero controller. BAM perfect portable emulation machine.

but, since having a lot of ds games can get big memory wise, and I love ds, and it has buttons lol, and I don't waste my phone battery by playing m ds, I did get a flashcart. it is nice to have both worlds.
