:O:huh:
The poor PlayStation Drive.....
This looks very, very rough.....not to achieve the Hack but I am sorry for the PSX....:(
For me this is not a Hack, this is disrespectful handling of Hardware...
(If the PSX Drive is no longer working after that "treatment",who cares, buy another, the "things" are dirt cheap anyway....)
I am also NO FAN of the SWAP MAGIC on the PlayStation 2.
All "Hacks" that uses "violent opening" of the Drive/Disc Loading Device which is still in Access is for me no Solution.

@zfreeman
This is nothing against your person.:)

Thank you.:)

Don't do the swap method, it's very harsh on your system. You can get a modchip for a few bucks and solder one in. PS1s are pretty easy to install modchips into.

It can take a lot of practice to get the flow right, always go with the slowest speed, if i recall correctly the ps1 only had a 2x drive
The speed you burn at does not have to match the speed of the drive you want to read it, that's a very very very old myth. Like late 90's myth.

Edit: try cleaning the laser with a cotton swab + alcohol too. I've seen drives not read any media and then work perfect after that, if the lens is very dirty.

What model PS1 do you have?

Ok im done trying with the disc swap method i don't want to fuck up our PS1 so now I'm looking for other methods. If I have to install a mod chip I will but that's the last thing i want to do I don't wanna alter it. Does this work? and if you guys know any other methods please let me know :)

If the PS1 has a utility port in the back, get a plug-mod. It's like a modchip, but it just plus in the back. It does more than a normal modchip too to since it has its own OS and memory for saving cheats and it can play videos and launch executables directly from disk. It's great for homebrew.

If not, you can use a GameShark (or the PSX-Xchange disk) to swap disks along with a spring to keep the cover button held down. These disks will stop the motor when its time to swap, so no damage to your system.

As an aside, every computer that exists today can emulate PS1 at full speed with upscaling using EPSXE; including Android phones. If that doesn't work because your computer is 25+ years old, Bleem and Virtual Game Station run on a 180mhz Pentium.

Either way, don't try the swap trick. It doesn't work (at all for me, but not reliably for anyone) and it will damage your system.

Yeah that works, the way the playstation copy protection works is by having the disc send the region code ( SCEA -USA, SCEE - Europe, SCEI - Japan and SCEW - Net Yarozee) when it starts spinning and then another check is performed by the executable file itself ( which is where you get the classic black PS logo.) - this is actually simple, clear plain text, so all basic mod chips do is spam the appropriate region code all the time. The smart ones are a little more complicated and will only send the code for a short time to get around certain games which employed some anti-piracy where it could detect when the code was being sent when it shouldn't but this (don't quote me on this ) wasn't used on too many games, one of the Sypro games and FF8 are the only two that spring instantly to mind.

There are essentially 4 ways of doing this 2 of which are essentially the same -
  • Swap trick as outlined in the posts above
  • Swap discs that OP mentioned
  • Cartridges that attach to the back IO port and require you to have the sensor jammed down and spin up an a legit disc first
  • Mod chip
By far the most hassle free is to just go for the mod chip, if you cant solder it in, chances are there are someone in your area that will do it for you. While it's not exactly hard it's not something I would have some one with little t
