Hacking Is there a full system backup that can be done before installing CFW ?

Hi I am planning to do a PS3 jailbreak with CFW. What type of system backup can I do before I try this just in case I want to restore my previous settings and uninstall CFW (or in case something goes wrong during installation) ? Also do I need to have a custom chip installed in the PS3 or just by downloading the CFW files (e.g. Rebug Lite) and installing in it in the PS3 from there is enough to get CFW on the PS3 ?
