Hacking Is the any viable way to make a softmodded wii run GC backups with or

First I've heard that it's impossible to do GC backups without a chip and then every now and then I hear people talking about how you can use a Gecko to run them off an SD card or something. Does this method:
1.Work on Softmod
and 2.play the GC games relatively full speed
?
If this is possible is there any tut for how to use a gecko and what they can do and stuff so I can decide if I want to buy one?

the SD method is extremely buggy and with low compatability. not worth bothering
