depends on the r4i you're referring to (there's a load of clones with 'r4i' in it), but the ak2i is unbeatable to any r4i, imo. Although, if you like wood r4, r4i gold 3ds (from r4ids.cn) will be a better choice.

shitcard has onboard cpu, only difference.
r41 is the best, for 10 bucks.
I don't think ak has built-in cpu (although it might have some very limited amount for the AP bypass).

ak2i has official akaio support (which probably has one of the highest compatibility to games), whereas the best an 'r4i' clone can have is YSmenu (which is great), or in r4i gold 3ds' case, wood support. Wood isn't that bad, but its GUI is slightly slower than akaio for me. DSTwo (which has built-in cpu) has some cool features and has great compatibility to games.

@OP: a poll would make this thread more beneficial ;)

Uh...Acekard doesn't have an onboard CPU.

R4i with Wood firmware is pretty awesome. If you're on a low budget get the R4.
opps, am i wrong? might be, i drink to much, hehe.

i will tell you the truth, ive never used a shitcard.
ive never seen a shitcard.
i have only used r4i.
my opinions are biased.
omg, i confused this with a dstwo, i am very sorry.

There are some non-3DS R4s that also have Wood support. Like the one from r4ids.cn

*checks to make sure*

r4i gold 3ds and r4i gold (non-3ds) are both made by the same r4ids.cn team. I was kind of referring to both. :P
This team is one of the few carts that have official wood support, instead of those modified ones provided by crap-cloners.

just wondering lol

If you refer to the "Which Flashcart Should I Get?" chart, both are identical in functionality (assuming you get the /right/ R4i cart).

The GUI that loads ROMs/Homebrew (AKAIO & Wood) use the same theme formatting, so the interfaces are not distinguishably different to a new user (although Wood seems to render the clock animation image properly, while at some point, it was somehow messed up in AKAIO..?).

I would say that weighing pros and cons, most individuals find Wood and AKAIO equally useful, but they handle updates for game compatibility pretty differently (this has nothing to do with patching flashcart-blocking updates released by Nintendo, mind you). This results in Wood having a very fast update cycle opposed to AKAIO, because AKAIO can usually launch new games either with Advanced Anti-Piracy patching enabled or by updating only the loaders (which can be done via Wi-Fi in the AKAIO menu).

However, in recent times, since R4i Gold (I think) began getting official Wood support, one of the most recent DSi/3DS firmware updates blocked almost all known flashcarts and the R4i Gold was actually the first cart (beating Supercard and Acekard team) to have a firmware patch released (within 24 hours iirc). And, if i remember correctly, Acekard team took several days.

I personally prefer to use an original R4 w/Wood & my DS Lite more often than the other things in my collection, lately (described in my sig).

Well now that RetroGameFan is providing updates for DSTT, R4(and clones) and M3 Cards, they are currently the most up to date cards around. Acekard is falling behind a bit but I'm sure a good update will come soon. I personally have had an M3 DS Real since the beginning and with the help of RetroGameFan and Gaboros I am using a loader called WoodYS(which uses the wood GUI and the YSMenu loader) for up to date compatibility with a decent interface. It seems that 3rd party support is the only way any of these flash cards will survive. Cyclo/EDGE has their source locked as far as I know and no one has attempted to create an altenative loader for it so I would say that at the moment they are the most useless cards around.

Unless I am mistaken, no one mentioned the contact problems with AceKard. I had a number of defective/faulty AceKard and stopped buying them. Now, I buy only the R4iGold Wood Compatible (cited above) and I have not had any such problems. I would stay away from AceKard.

R4i and wood will make you feel better about your shitty purchase.
AK2i with AKAIO beats both of my R4i's with wood.

Well try using RetroGameFans Updates for your R4i and it will be more compatible than your AK2i is. AKAIO is not updated as frequently compared to Retro's Updates.

IMO,both the r4i gold 3ds and acekard 2i are good card, r4 team is quick to response and fix problems, the r4 wood kernel is updated frequently to support the newest games.Yet, acekard 2i has the excellent AKAIO kernel as well,it also has plenty of skins for you to choose.Actually, I think the mainly differences between them are their prices.. http://www.gamekool.com/freeshipping-acekard-2i-support-dsidslds-p-184.html sells acekard 2i at $15.1, r4i gold at $13.5...

Man, ya'll took fanboyism to an unhealthy level, especially popcorn.
Both team sucks, just pick what you like more AKAIO or WOOD
Because without Normmatt and Smith Acekard would be as dead as M3
And without YWG the R4i gold would be a shitty clone just like it was before YWG decided to support it

M3 is alive and well thanks to RetroGameFan and Gaboros...also R4i Gold and many other R4 clones are supported by RetroGameFan's Updates as well.
YWG isn't the only 3rd party supporting the R4.

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.

Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

    To me that seems reasonable.

I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150
