We're still limited to 3.55 for hacks. You'll need a PS3 capable of running that firmware, which includes any of the phat PS3s and only some of the first Slim version PS3s. You can check models here: http://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/SKU_Models

If you're firmware is above 3.55, you need to downgrade your PS3 using a hardware downgrader like the E3 flasher.

If by "normal" you mean fat, then it is hackable.
It doesn't hurt to ask what firmware it's on.

It's been a good while since I last did anything with my PS3, at latest 2 years ago or so. So I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction to get back on track.

I have a fat PS3 already hacked atm with cfw Rogero 4.50 v1.01. Has Multiman and whatnot, pretty much everything you'd suspect to play backups.
But in the mean time I'd figure the PS3 hacking hasn't been completely quiet. So what would I need/do to be up to date again.

Especially with Persona 5 coming soon(ish).

No. Only PS3s previously able to run firmware 3.55 can be hacked to use CFW. This only includes all phatty PS3s, and only some of the first Slim PS3 models.

There's no CFW on any Super Slim.

No. Super Slim's are unmoddable. Only phats and some early slims can be modded with CFW.
