Gaming Is my DSI From Another Region?

I have a metallic blue DSI. Was looking to sell it and put the money towards that zelda 3ds XL system.

Anyways, I formatted it and selected english as language, when I get to select country I dont see USA anywhere.. no USA, America, United States to be found.

I found some info online, someone said "If the option is not given, then you've got a DSi from the wrong region.The US is an option only on the American DSi. There's no fix or workaround, the region is hardcoded into the DSi specifically to restrict access to certain content."

Is that true or am I just missing something? And if so, is there any way to find out what region its from?

It's safe to assume this isn't a NA DSi.
I would assume that if it lists Europe countries, it's an European system.
