Hacking Is it safe to play PAL backups on an NTSC Wii?

I'm really sorry, I'm sure this is a common answer but I can't really find a straight one. I've heard some people say that it can brick your Wii and others say it won't.

I did try searching, but I couldn't find anything. Please don't hurt me.

Yes as long as you don't update off the disc.

only way to update off the disc, is if your chip allows you to play other region discs through the disc channel
