You're right, the 3.0.1 update blocks the possibility of this hack (Switch). As for the 3DS, correct me if I'm wrong, but the thing with the magnet (ntrboot) works with every 3DS, any firmware, and they can't really block it unless they do a hardware revision on the 3DS, which is really unlikely... The only thing needed is a flashable DS linker, which are super cheap now. So yes, you need specific shit as you said, but not that specific, expensive or rare. So I think we can emit the hypothesis that 3DS can be hacked no matter what without being wrong.

is it worth the wait man oh man. Let's take my vita for example. Bought one used and the playstation tv I bought day one. Both went unused save for me playing a few games here and there. Flash forward to today. Now my pstv rocks 1tb of storage and is my go to device in some ways for certain emu (ps1 or cps2 or neogeo yes i have a pc of course but this device can easily be moved from room to room or house to house). The psvita now has 256gb of sd storage and is now the device of my portable dreams. Time spent waiting till I reached this point? About 3 years. Sure there were some nice gains earlier but it was only this month that I gained the ability to boot up my pstv straight to my 1tb. Also until this month I was also limited to 64gb of vita memory storage max which was also pricey. Good things come to those who wait my friend. There is wisdom in the old saying. I have high hopes for le waiting game with the switch.

Except you can still buy a new Vita TV and it will be lower than the needed firmware. I got one from Target not long ago for $20. On top of that the Vita is near the end of its life. The Switch is just starting.

Just update the wait for something is stupid. You proberly wont be able to play the new Mario if you do not update. And look at the WiiU, it has excelent exploit in the latest few firmwares. So does the 3ds, hell that even has a working flash card. If anything I think there will be a skySwitch card in the future before we get working easy exploit on Switch

Look, he isn't going to do that even if you ask him to. Try and understand his situation. He has updated already/ can't get one below 3.0 because of whatever reason, and now he's trying to justify it by getting everyone else to follow suit. Getting a hack above 3.01 is his only hope and he doesn't want to be the only one hoping for it, and wants others to share that hope as well.

I personally think if you have a 3.0 or lower model, box it and keep it away (or play your older game cards), and try to buy another one (even a used one if you find something affordable) for your newer games. It's going to be a while before Switch prices drop and you can always get back most of your money if you try and resell your console if newer firmwares get a hax.

I really don't think its worth it at this point. The switch doesn't really have the games stocked up to just keep it offline for me. As soon as mario odyssey even gets close to release I will update. I don't feel like waiting 1-2 years+ just for homebrew/cfw. I can buy my games and have other ways to play emulators tbh.

I'd never be able to give up the new releases just for the sake of some shite emulators and cheats for the 4 games actually playable on 3.0.0. I couldn't imagine seeing all these games begin to come out and not be able to play them even though I had the freaking console right there.

But then I've never seen the appeal of homebrew for anything but piracy, and I can't see that happening on Switch without opening it up and busting out the solder for a loooong time, if ever.
