Hacking Is ExFat corruption on external drive a thing?

I know that the common belief is that ExFat can/will eventually lead to corruption, so since day 1 my SDcard has been FAT32. However for simplicity's sake I have been using a USB thumbdrive as ExFat.

I recently updated to sx os 3.02 but keeping my emunand at 9.1.0 in an effort to test out any issues with the sx os update before I update my console to 10+. After updating sx os I had an issue with some games on the external drive giving me an sx os error and having to reboot to console. For some reason moving the game files from the sxos folder to the root of the external drive solved this issue.

However when playing some games it will close and then the switch will ask me to check for corrupt data (the checks have turned out fine). Copying over a fresh dump seems to have fixed the issue.

Anyway this whole thing just has me curious if it's possible for an external drive to get ExFat corruption.

It is possible but it's not like on Switch with an sd card. If you disconnect the hard drive from your pc over and over without doing it the proper way (where it says you can now disconnect your hard drive) or whatever it says, then you can. But sd cards can get it much easier and corruption can corrupt an entire sd card but that's not the case with an external hard drive.
