No, it's not dead in my opinion. A small group of people (like me) still love the ds, because it's more of a challange to develop for it than it is with modern consoles, because it still has a 2d engine and simple sound channels, and because it's so easy to do low level coding for it (in comparison with the 3ds and it's pica gpu and dsp for example).

Homebrew hacks are still being actively developed, just look for Errmii Kart DS and SKJmin Super Mario Bros 3 ver 4.0 are yet to be released.

Hacks != Homebrew

these days no one is making homebrew and/or rom hacks for the ds so is the ds homebrew/rom hacking done/dead?

/s

He reffered to both in his post. My point still stands. The only point in coding for the older DS now is to learn simpler programming and test it out.

If you ever get GBARunner2 to work, I will virtually hug you my friend. Keep at it! Praying for that not-so-long release!

Well, GBARunner2 already works very well with quite a lot of games, and the graphics and sound are better than gbaemu4ds. The SD access speed is slower, but I'm working on that. You can try it for yourself by downloading the git repo, following the instructions and building it.

The Homebrew in DS used Lua as one of the main programming language.
As my knowledge goes, Lua is a bit restrictive, besides, the Nintendo DS has many limitations.
I pressume that's why the Scene in DS stopped developing.
Although... the DS Scene has MANY applications, that makes the DS one of the best gadgets out there.

I'm not sure if the DS can handle C... but it should be interesting.

Wha?? All the tutorials I've read about DS programming uses Lua.
Didn't knew it could handle C.
