I'm interested in doing some C# development for the Wii U. I've never ported a game before and I wanna start with an open source C# one. I saw that there's a Unity version that works on the system, and I was wondering if anyone knows how to use the build of mono built into Unity as a C# compiler for it.

It's unity. You use it like unity. You can't just use unity's build of mono without the rest of unity. Even if you could there would be no standard lib

You can use unity like a framework using it to display and move sprites but it'd be a better idea to just use unity as intended or develop in C#.

Please keep in mind that it still interprets C# instead of compiling it so it might be slower.
