Who among us here has a hacked Wii, or has hacked one for others? It's alot of work ain't it? Getting everything just right. Then you have to go through every little thing and explain how everything works. You may have forgotten a thing or two or most of what you said goes in one ear and out the other. Then a few weeks later, you get calls because the person you hacked it for messed something up and they need you to come over and fix it. You get there and discover they had no idea what they were doing, or the kids went crazy and changed a bunch of crap, throwing everything out of whack. Well NO MORE!

Introducing the Wiiflow User Manual!!!
This is a hacked Wii manual for Wiiflow users, which covers basic things from the Homebrew Channel, to every little detail about Wiiflow, from settings, homebrew applications, plugins and more. It is designed to be a readily accessible guide that you can reference right from within Wiiflow.

It uses a flip-book style coverflow and is easy to install and use. It is recommended that "cover_use_hq=" be changed to yes in the Wiiflow.ini. Component cables also help, though it should be perfectly fine with LQ covers and composite cables.

Let's have a look at it in action!

This is not the final product, as there are still many things to be added, such as various emulators, and homebrew apps, but what is here is very useable. It is my hope that with a little help from the community, be it spell checking, information gathering, and other suggestions, that we can turn this into a valuable resource for every Wiiflow user. Of course in the end, it may not be exclusively for those who use wiiflow, (I suppose you could view it from Wiixplorer or CBR) but Wiiflow just seems like a cool place to put it. :P

I'd really like to know if anyone finds this useful and what you feel really needs to be covered. Feedback is crucial, and I hope this will help make Wiiflow, and your setup as a whole, easier to use and understand. :)

It should be noted that the dol used for the plugin is trivial, as it's just a means of getting it to display in Wiiflow, and doesn't actually launch anything. I was gonna try some fancy stuff with a modded Wiibrowser, letting you download updated versions by launching the Cover, but Dropbox doesn't wanna cooperate the way it did back in the day. So as of now, hitting PLAY is just a way of bookmarking the page you were on :P

I really want this to be as complete as possible. So if everyone could try it out, look through it, let me know if there's anything that needs changed, added, merged, etc., that would be great. The idea is for this to cover just about everything a Wii is capable of, leaving no questions unanswered. I think that in this format, with each page containing bite sized chunks of information, the user is liable to retain more than if they had to go searching through forums and wikis.

The download is 403'ing me. I could translate the manual to Spanish if you like the idea.

Also, from the look of it, it's amazing.

EDIT: Using some Google-Fu I managed to find a mirror: http://filetrip.net/dl?ZQANajQ2Z5
Working fine for me. Maybe it's because I'm hot linking it? The file trip one is out of date kinda, as I was still tinkering with things while looking for a file hosting site to suit my needs. Will update the OP in a sec.

Link should be fixed now. Sorry about that. :/

Me manual es su manual, senoir. In my testing, I've found that Veranda Bold, size 18 with antialiasing off shows up the best (smallest size that is still readable, allowing for the most info crammed onto one page). If you should find any way of doing it that works better, let me know ;)

so many info! like it
only thing I wanna change is add a new emuflow since I use emuflow-11 in many plugins, this will require a source change, a theme update and ofc removing triforce icon
having a useful manual is better than having an obsolete source icon
on my to do list, for the near future

So I'll just wait for you to update your theme and add it to my pack? Just curious, but 12 flows seems like alot. Do we need another?

yes let's not lose any flows when we add this manual, also we don't need the pngs as long as we have the cache
True, I guess. Just thought I'd provide them should anyone feel the urge to submit any improvements/additions/alterations. You know, teamwork, and such. If it would prove beneficial, I can also make available the text documents. Should make any alterations a bit easier.

I thought that you had the original photoshop/gimp images, ready to edit the text in chunks, so a plain text file would be enough. If I have to hack the translation into the images it's all right, but that's going to take a while. Kudos again for such an enormous piece of awesomeness.

Added the WUM Text in the OP. It should be as easy as opening the pages in gimp, clearing the text field (select area, delete, background fill) and then creating a new text field and copy/paste from the text files. Near the end (of development thus far, not the end of the manual necessarily, I got kinda lazy and just made the pages on the fly. But most of the info is in the text files. Might fix them later.

Perfect. I'm almost done translating the plain texts.

    Nice. What VPN? PIA?
  • Plazorn @ Plazorn:
It's called AirVPN, it was highly recomended by fmhy
  • Plazorn @ Plazorn:
It supports port forwarding as well!
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
Nice. I use privado VPN, got it for free with one of my usenet providers. It sucks, doesn't support port forwarding so I have issues connecting to a lot of peers. But still prefer it over not using one

  • Plazorn @ Plazorn:
I guess it's better than nothing. What's the advantage of Usenet?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@Plazorn, upsides to usenet - SSL encrypted so no vpn needed, it downloads from the usenet provider's servers and is not peer-to-peer, generally can download as fast as your internet/router/storage can possibly allow, usenet providers in different countries have different takedown policies a la DMCA, and if you have multiple providers you might be able to grab bits and pieces of a file from multiple providers in order to still get stuff that was removed from one (they generally don't remove all parts of the file, just enough to make it non-functional)
    +1
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
Downsides is it does cost money, having multiple providers is useful as mentioned above but then you're paying more money, and you need NZB indexers (the usenet parallel to a torrent tracker) and the good ones also usually cost a small amount of money.
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
Oh yeah, also since it's not P2P there's no ratio to maintain or anything. If you wanna download 5TB a day or whatever, knock yourself out
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I generally prefer usenet over torrents, but I do like having torrents as a fallback option
  • Plazorn @ Plazorn:
That's really interesting @Sicklyboy , I was always under the impression that usenet was slower than regular internet. Also the fact that you don't need any vpn for it to be secure.
  • Plazorn @ Plazorn:
It seems like it would be less stressful, because you wouldn't have to worry about piracy trolls as much
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
Yeah, like at the end of the day, with the few usenet providers and NZB indexers I'm paying for, I'm probably paying anually what a netflix sub would cost. But netflix doesn't have everything media related I want, let alone other stuff like games and software :D
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
But it's largely set it and forget it
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
On black friday and a bunch of other holidays you can usually find providers doing like $35/year sales on reddit. And the indexers are usually like $15-20 for a year and a half on sale
  • Plazorn @ Plazorn:
You pay for the convenience at the end of the day
    +1
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I have I think 3 providers I'm currently paying for and 2 indexers. So probably around $110 a year if I had to guess in order to keep that setup going
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
But you certainly don't need to go that deep into it, you can do very well with a single provider and single indexer
Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy: But you certainly don't need to go that deep into it, you can do very well with a single...
